[Resolved]Quake3 100% CPU usage
hi guys,
i have a big problem. i switched from a quad core to a dual core (dont ask me why, dont want to explain it now) and suddenly i had some stutters in quake. every few seconds i have a little lag and it makes it very hard to play.
so it just watched the task manager and found out that quake 3 used 100% of my dual core cpu, whats quite impossible because the game is very old and for sure its not meant to support more then 1 cpu. the lags have definatly to do with this 100% cpu usage, but i have no idea what to do.
at first i tried to give quake 3 only one core via task manager, but then it was even more unplayable. i also tried to set process priotity to high what also resulted in unplayable. at last i tried to run it in compatibility mode with XP, but it had no effect.
so how is it possible that quake 3 uses 100% of a dual core cpu and is lagging like hell? =/
i think i had no problems with quad core because the quad was only at 50% and had some reserves, while the dual core is at 100%.
hope this helps

cpu1 - Frag me bro!?
cpu0 - OK!
my friend had same problem once, and as I recall there is some application like "optimizer" between 2 cores that optimizes cpu performance... sorry I don't know exact name of it...

this could help maybe if you have amd cpu... good luck!
RAM value ?
well simp i have also dual core and i have 100% but as i remember i always had like that
check youre bios settings
Enable CCC.exe on startup - it will run proper compatibility openGL mode and GPU will do its job instead CPU.
i have core 2 duo E6750 2.66ghz (dual core) and it works good i don't have lags and the q3 runs at 50%
try to check & close other unused programs that you have in your task manager.. maybe those could be the problem?

r_smp is 0 but still 100%.
edit: i deleted my baseq3 and e+ config and restarted quake, still 100%. so it seems to be no config issue.
PS: i use windows 7 64bit and ATI drivers, if thats important for u.
