It's true... i've played excessive quake 4 too but it's not the same...

I've read everyone's comments and I have to agree with {D*R*T} BODZ!

I play Q3 and Q4 on-line. Yes, they are not the same game - so what! Quake is different from Quake II, which is different from Quake III, which is different from Quake IV.

Personally, I prefer Quake and its commercial add-ons like Rogue's Mission Pack #2 "Dissolution of Eternity" over Quake II and its add-ons.

Similarly, I prefer Q3 and its many mods like uFreeze, E+, Western Quake and Urban Terror over Q4 and its mods.

The important point is that fewer and fewer players will be introduced to E+ and more and more players will leave the mod. E+ WILL either die out like "Alternate Fire" or be played only by a few hardcore veterans if it is not ported to Q4 and/or other games.

Mr. Pants, who developed Excessive (from which E+ was derived) had the foresight to have his mod run on Q3, Q4, UT, UT2003, UT2004, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, Battle Field Vietnam, and possibly other games to ensure that it had wide exposure and that a gamer who plays the mod can play it in several popular FPS's.

That last ability is very useful. When I started playing Q4, I looked for any mods that I liked in Q3 so that the transition would be as smooth as possible. I'm pretty sure my decision was not unique. Yes, gameplay is different because of the mechanics of a different engine but much of the familiarity, comfort and skill learned in a mod is transferable from one game to another.

Finally, I don't look on E+ being ported to Q4 or any other game as signaling the beginning of a migration to that game. This is what MADBRINGER and 2!S*FIREFOX seem to suggest.

There are people still playing DooM, Quake, and Quake II on-line. So, if anything, a port offers an alternative to introduce the mod to others and leaves Q3 E+ players with the option to remain, migrate, or enjoy both.

^^. couldnta put it better. i would also suggest that until the time comes when most e+'ers start playing q4 (as in other q4 mods like baseq4 or q4max or whatever) and we see a significant shift from q3 to q4 in terms of the e+ population, we really needn't worry about a migration to q4 at all. altho i suppose it would be a good bit of foresight to plan for that eventuality.

About dieing e+.

As long there are good servers and new people who setup new good servers, like the zombie freezer (pitty without pb and pure), this mod will die very, very slowly, because new players (less with the time for sure), will be attracted to play this mod.

About q4, i play from time to time q4max freeze with rail-only. it feels pretty much the same with fov 130 (like i play e+, too), as q3 instagib, IU or a e+ railonly. The movement is pretty much the same (not totally, i love the crouchslides arround corners after a good strafe or after a jumppad). So i think it would be possible to make e+ pretty much the same in q4 as it is in q3. But one problem of it is, i guess, that less as the half of the people here have a strong enough pc for play it smoothly "online". Even with tweaked config can be just wasted time. If u wanna e+ similiar on q4, gtr will be a good platform, even if it is not really the same.

About pants in other fps-games. I tryed it in elite force, and in ut2kxyz. I was already lucky to find a server with it. 1st, it is not comparable with pants in q3, and it is far away of beeing so popular as it in q3 "was". I can't report it about other fps-games.

Actually we started the work on a port but froze it shortly after, as for the moment it's not worth the effort.

I mean there are more people playing Excessive Plus Q3 then Quake 4 with all it's mods and the game has been released in the late 2005.
