Hello all, just built new pc. Want to get some quake 3 action on the go pretty soon, just wanted to know if q3 runs ok in vista. i have the home premium version 64bit. I think from what i've read it's ok, but punkbuster has alot of issues? just wondering if anyone can enlighten me a little more or if theres any workarounds.

cheers. Cool

I run on vista 32 bit (ultimate). I had a lot of problems when vista was new. But nowadays i dont even run q3 in compatiblity mode any more. Just works perfect.

While in past 64 bit made way more problems then 32 bit, nowadays things look a bit different imo.

It also depends on the age of your pc components. As older the components, as more problem you may become.

To the other guy in this thread:
To say generally "vista sucks", is a little bit idiotic. My PC boots in 23 seks, with xp arround a minute. Also the perfomance in vista is way higher for me then the performance of xp. After a lot of problems what i had, when vista was new, i dont have any of this problems nowadays anymore. The only poblems concerning q3 is, if i am on a pb serve and i use alt+enter to switch in windowed mode, i get kicked by punkbuster. But thats all. XP had way more problems when it was new, if u are to young to remember it Happy

If you want to compare, here my system:
Mainboard: Asus P5B (without newest chipset drives and without newest audiodrivers, they make system slower, i use default drives from vista)
CPU: Q6600
VGA: ASUS 8800 Ultra (latest drivers)
RAM: 3GB Dual Channel, Asymmetric
Cooler: Xilence 700W
Razer Copperhead: With latest firmware and drivers

Back to topic, with 64bit u may have more problems as with 32 bit, but i would listen to others, who have direct and latest experience. Othewise keep a small part of your hdd for winxp where u can run your q3 Happy
