Anyone Using Linux?
I've got a huge question for anybody willing to answer,
does anyone know how to use QNAME on linux?
Because when i try to use it... after i copied the text from QNAME to Text Editor...
then exec it in Quake III (excessive plus).
IT comes out nothing like what it looked like in Qname...
please ... help???
anyone know of a better text editor that will work with Qname on linux???
please .... i need answers!

{HK}RatSalad is a Linux enthusiast and can probably help you with all sorts of Quake-Linux stuff.
I run Linux (Gentoo) exclusively. The only way I've gotten qname to work even remotely was through wine...
You might have more success creating the name manually. Try this:
[code:1]set name "+u# +f# +t# +u#"[/code:1]
which should give you
and
[code:1]set name "+U# +F# +T# +U#"[/code:1]
will give you
Also see the official docs on the subject at http://www.excessiveplus.net/docs/names.html
Also, another thing -- make sure your editor of choice is saving the files in plain 8-bit ASCII/latin1 encoding... Many editors nowadays will use Unicode (UTF-8) as default, which causes undesirable effects in Q3.
[code:1]set name "+u# +f# +t# +u#"[/code:1]which should give you
and
[code:1]set name "+U# +F# +T# +U#"[/code:1]
will give youQ3.
i use linux (debian), too. same situation, extended characters only by doing +x# etc.
wine wont help you, i tried, qname doesnt work.
on my laptop, im running win (too lazy , and when i used qname there and copied the code into cfg, it didnt work in quake either (producing that unnamed player+ shit). need to try that w-iso thing (im a fool )
other problem: i read this annoying pb+pure diskussion. i once installed pb for linux, it worked well for about one week, but now i cant join pb_enabled servers (so please dont enable pb on 2|sweet-ctf )
what experience did you make with pb and linux?
sure q3name doesnt work on linux ..... exe ...... but with whine it works i have tested before, u just must configurate whine and tune it a little bit cause it doesnt have all codecs/compiles ....

I have absoultely no issues with PB on Linux, either client or server. Why can't you join, do you get any error message?

i can join, but im kicked/banned by pb after about 3 seconds (dont know reason, cant read that fast ), therefore i have ban on all 2|sweet pb_enabled servers...
as long as the servers stay non-pb (bro servers, 2|s-ctf, area51..) its not a big problem for me, so im already happy that not all servers a pb_enabled (i dont mind what you do while cw when its disabled after )
Yeah, someone told me about wine ... i have cedega also .. but that doesnt help...
i tried using notepad on wine ... but when i open it from terminal (notepad on wine)
it crashes asking if i want to de-bug ... also im using the crappiest version ever!
wine 0.9.2 !!! Guess why, im using Fedora Core 4 ... had to switch from Ubuntu because it wouldn't hold my Radeon 9600... anyways less bull,
Fedora Core 4 only uses RPM's {Redhat Package Manager} and i cant seem to get any
version besides 0.9.2 that has an RPM file ... i really need help about this ... how do i debug from terminal becuase i cant run it from command line ... it doesnt load from there. ... any ideas?
