And damn good!

Anyone know of any good programs/plug-ins/samples/etc to create really nice sounding distorted guitars? Such as what you emulate with the Slayer plug-ins or just take a nice sound and run it in a tracker (Razor-ub from UT99 <3), f.e Happy *

Also, almost the same question for drums, but with focus on simplicity... I really suck at making drum tracks and am not really motivated to spend a lot of time on that either, got other things I'd rather focus on. So something simple, "insert one of many 4/4 loops here" and "insert one of many fills here" Big grin

* No "learn to play real guitar" please, I can do that already but am interested in this anyway Tongue Easier to slowly build something up and save without having to plug lots of cables around and try to handle my KE3 in my computer chair (hint: arm rests...).

Tor, the majority of the distortions and saturations I use on drum tracks are done before the mix -- and as you know some of my drum tracks are VERY distorted. Happy I like to saturate in a number of ways before even distorting a track by upping the main drum input level BEFORE the board, then distorting, and outputting the "final product" to the main mixer.

Submixes rock.

From there I may pitch-alter any given track to be one octave up and play it at double-speed, then re-feed it back through at normal speed so it SOUNDS normal pitched and normal speed. But the saturation is incredible. Sometimes I do it the other way around and pitch stretch something to an octave down and play at half speed, then speed it back up to normal and it sounds incredible that way also.

Just some distortion ideas for you there. They're not trademarked but I learned them on my own over the years with input from some very creative people. Winking

Edit -- You might get similar results using a D/I box into the soundcard (if you record that way) by recording a track at half-speed and 1 octave down (or double-speed and one octave up) by recording it at a lower bitrate and then adjusting the sample rate to double once finished recording. The saturation/distortion level might be dangerous... but still very unique. Big grin

*common chatter innuendo*

// edit: after giving this a thought, i've decided to actually ask a topic related question - anyone knows what the guys from Darkthrone did to achieve that weird buzzing sound on "A Blaze..."?

Yeah. Try not cleaning the heads on your favorite tape player for about 2 or 3 years. Then record directly into the back of it with a mic in the middle of the room while your band practises. Make sure you don't change any settings on anything, just throw it down, hit record, and go. The more red you see on the clip indicators, the better.

E.G., there's really no way to get that sound without not caring that you sound... well... bad. Don't get me wrong, I love early Darkthrone, but they could've put some effort towards making it more listenable. Happy
