tor interview
Tem/Shady AK says:
So I've seen u on the servers and i downloaded the vid (took me 6 mins with the kind of bandwidth they have in this uni), the words "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" come to mind... how did u get so good and wot did u play before e+?
joachim.sandberg@torzelan.com says:
I've played games since forever and already in the first Quake it was important to know how to move. I don't do a lot of fancy things, but if needed, I can and will throw an essay in your face about why fancy does not equal neccessary or good.
Aiming has always been my favourite aspect of everything FPS and when I was the most serious I really put some hardcore time and effort into watching the absolute best players on and off screen; all the how's, why's and when's about aiming.
It's like everything else in gaming. The thing that separates the best from the good is not only knowing a trick (move, aim, tactic), it is knowing why it's used and if you can/should too. Copying gets you only "that far", remodeling to suit yourself breaks the limitations.
Just before E+, I played SoF2. To save space, I'll just link to my profile on my SoF2 clanpage: http://www.team-nd.net/index.php?open=members&action=show&id=2
I've checked that page out before, the amount of "1st place" finishes in proportion to tournaments participated in is impressive... And your aim is incredible, i remember 1 day i logged on to a server and you were there, under a fakenick, and you were hitting the fraglimit in the time i got 10-20 frags, becasue i didnt know who you were I was this close to typing in /callvote kick gigabyte Im glad that i didnt or we wouldnt be having this interview right now...
Hehe, mow did a funny one yesterday when I joined the 2!s FFA. He messaged something like "torz? before i start accusing" hehe.
haha, i was seriously amazed by your style of gaming ... care to write a few words about the few nice admins who try to ban you cos they think that you cheat, and how often does it happen?
Depends a lot on what server I'm on now. For example, on one hand we have the awesome "seenyour huevos?" admins where there is no problem at all (remember I said admins, the players are another story. Yeah I'm talking to you amelia, ali and your witch-hunting buddies), and on the other hand we have, say, "Capture the Tifs".
I like fragging there a lot, and I also frag there a lot. This does not match well with the players not enjoying being fragged a lot, and generally after one round with a new fakenick one of three things occur: 1. Votekick 2. Admin kick 3. Very devoted teamshooters.
Oddly enough I'm always just kicked, never had a ban on me (in there) which is convenient.
yeah, rattfink and thanatos are great people and what is your way to deal with the retards?
As much as I have huge problems doing so, I really, really, really try to just ignore them, atleast the random ones I don't know or care about. But when any of the three things I was talking about earlier gets going, it's kind of hard to avoid having to do something. Then I usually talk to them. I always adapt the maturity level of my own part to theirs but make sure to make sense and write it in good English. But yeah, mostly they are "retards" as you put it, and I have no moral problems verbally trashing them for as long as it's fun.
So what's you clan history? and when I had my DNA tryout, were you there?
I really hope you only meant E+ so I'll go with that, heh.
-> fUzz - Together with smorgar. His clan. We were the only two players and that lasted around... A day.
-> DNA - Next destination for me and smorgar. Awesome attitude within the clan, really, no denying. Very, very imbalanced skill level though.
I am really thankful for what DNA gave me though; being my first clan wars and a chance to show myself and compare to others "for real". I am less thankful for how a certain clanleader acted when I left though, but no need to go into that. I never promised to stay forever, my goal being always playing the best I can, with the best I can, against the best I can.
Also I was in the clan for... 8 days! Beyond me how that roughly one week would have such an impact. Anyway...
-> Hyper - Third two-in-one player transfer model torz&smorg. The good thing was that they were good and nice, and that probably overshun most of the bad stuff really. Tactics and other players playing styles really did not match with my own though, and language/age barriers made talking with some people quite frustrating sometimes.
-> *SWE* - Right level, right playing style, right communication, right everything. Not the most active of clans, but one can't get everything.
I don't know if I was still in DNA when you were tryouting, atleast I never heard anything about it then. There were some people doing tryouts though so maybe, maybe not.
Oh, also need to add to the Hyper part. Like with DNA, I never broke any promises by leaving, but I have to say Dragon and most of the players took it in an amazing way. All thumbs up for keeping it real.
True, and glen and psykos went off to BBS with the certain clanleader you talked about, now they've left and made an exclusive swedish clan (http://www.excessiveplus.net/clandb/id=902) sound familiar?
Vaguely, yeah. They have been very productive in the clan resurrecting/creating area, don't know if they're planning on doing anything soon though or if they just truly enjoy making new tags.
Which wouldn't be too weird though, there's something very addictive about qname.exe.
yeah, i made a new tag for my clan just days ago and glen is a great player, like psykos
So i see that in clanwar results you and hard are on a similar level, frag wise, but who usually pwns out of you 2 if you play 1v1 ?
Acually, "pwning" is not a description suitable for _any_ of the 1v1's we've had so far, they are hellatight, all maps. A bit reluctant in mentioning who won more games so far but hope Hard forgives me for saying I am in the lead if I also add that
1. They are not strictly played 1v1's and are not fair to use as measurement and 2. I keep up with the frags in TDM but routine and all has him dominating the net (the most important factor, not to confuse with efficiency which is shit).
I take pride in not teamkilling like a madman like he does though, haha! Would require major restructuring from his side to get rid of though and is not worth it since he way makes up for it in the end
You mean he adapts the "kill everything in sight while shouting "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHH" and listening to death metal on full volume" tactic then?
I think he just uses more rockets/bfg for spawnraping which is (almost) always a chance with friendly fire enabled. I almost always use rail. Did try a random bfg shot in our last game against PHC though... Sorry about that one, Saint.
Cool, while the i read your apology, eminem (out of my mp3 player) goes "I singled out a whole race, and for that I apologise." freaky coincedence... so what do u think about SWE's perofrmance in TDM league, and how far will you go compared with the other 2 "superclans" - |< [] and LEM ? Not forgetting DS and {DRT} who also made perfet starts despite facing difficult opposition...
It's all uncertain until it's over, hehe. From our point of view, KO and Lem really are "the ones to beat" so hopefully there is motivation enough to do so. Or shall we say time, as busy lives are really harsh on our activity. Fun fact: We've only had one practise, ever... A 3on3 in which I played with Xaiber for the first time.
Having played DRT with Hyper and crossreferencing results back and forth, how it felt and taking into consideration how much better everyone has gotten since then, I still feel that we don't have to start shaking but am certain it will be a great game, as with DS who I know a wee bit less about as a team and can only measure by comparing scores around.
Well, when you have great players who can use teamwork straight away, like SWE, for xXx (from my point of view), there's the four p's (joke shamelessy stolen from Weebl) - practice, practice, practice and pints... Where do u stand on use of private TS channels during cw's?
In SoF2, there pretty much wasn't a single war or even practise without everyone on TeamSpeak/Ventrilo/Skype(...and Roger Wilco back in the days) so it's been "the way to do it" for 4-5 years. Naturally this is a different kind of game though, and what I am certain of is that good or bad, it won't be as good/neccessary as in SoF2.
Potentially it could make things worse. Masking important ingame sounds and breaking concentrations (up to the individuals, f.e I would have no problem with TS as it's what I'm used to and I never were good at using sounds anyway), and so on.
I still think it could be good though. "Normal" Quake games (no more extreme mods than f.e OSP) has the best teams communicating a lot using voicecomms (or simply being next to eachother) and while E+'ers don't have to worry about stealing items from eachother, a lot of tactical/teamwork/battle specific things will be a lot easier and more flexible with voicecomm. I personally would vote for it, but it's not worth it if the others don't want to.
So do u use it in cw's? And what's the general standard for good clans wether to use it or not?
I've never seen another *SWE* on TS or any signs or interest, so no.
Not sure what you mean with the other question, all the best clans use voice communication, atleast when it matters. Then with best I mean the real best, not the best in mods without any prizes/big tournaments/etc.
For E+ I don't know any clan at all that uses it so, hehe. I made a topic about it a while back, no positive answers there and no indications elsewhere.
I remeber in DEST clan there was a thread about it, and evry1 said "its cool, its cool" but i didnt hear any1 else talk about it...
I know I saw all KO's in the same passworded channel once, coincidentally the same night as they played a league game. Don't know what when on in there of course, I do know they (some of them) are fucking annoying in the public teamspeak channels though with no coherent speaking and playing stupid songs and not stopping when asked.
like techno?
Like Supersonic Electronic.
OMG!!! haha
So any general shout outs for the e+ community?
