Best OS for games ?
Hi all !
I'm going to have a new PC soon (only cpu is still missing )
Now i don't know which OS i will use.
-XP 32 bit
-XP 64 bit
-Vista 32 bit
-Vista 64 bit
I have 4 GB DDR2 Ram, but with xp32 and vista 32 you can use maximum 3.2 GB.
Many people say that vista is crap if you want to run older software, so i am thinking about xp 64.
anyone runs xp 64 ? problems with it (drivers,.....)?
how about running older games on a 64 bit OS ? (Q3 , GTA III , ....... and many many more) ?
i read a lot in some forums last 2 days but still don't know........
So please give me advices , tell me about own experiances, and so on.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Nice greets, Acid
its possible to run older games on 64 bit os, but they just gonna be as fast as 32bit imo.
1st place: xp64 sp2 (waiting for official sp3 microzozz say +10% performance but bahhhh )
2nd place: vista 64 sp1
3rd place: win 98 2nd edition.. fastest !!
j/k..
i suggest u xp x64. actually teh best for 4gb of pure RAM :Q___
ok, is 2003 server based.. ok some progs don't work (in my case sygate firewall, logitech i-touch for my semi-old keyboard and messenger 8.5 fixed installing manually)
..but it's the best choice to play a decent game.
I also suggest to build a new copy and integrate sp2 with the software nLite.
it also allow u to apply some tweaks and remove some things that weighs the system.
results: self custom system
niko
if your looking to play the lastest games with best graphics an newer ones in future then i would go with Vista 64bit since Vista supports DX-10.
If your looking for better software compatability an faster computer then XP 64bit is ur choice i wouldnt use anything other than 64bit since u have 4gb of ram it would be a shame to waste it..
thats my opinion but im sure other people will have plenty to say.
xp 32 simplicity ftw!
xp 32bit
64bit os has low driver support = problems
DX10 is slower than 9 (difference cca 10FPS in the same game)
NOW there is not really much difference to DX-9
You are wrong. There is big difference in graphic between dx9 and dx10.
Anyway I prefer XP also, run at lower details with dx9, but without any crappy problems like on vista.
ok thanks to all who posted here
My choice is XP 64, i will give it a try.
- if i have to many problems (drivers,...) i will install XP 32 again
- about DX-10: NOW there is not really much difference to DX-9, and i think newest games will be still supported also by DX-9 for next 1-2 years and in this time there will new windows (maybe already 2009: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/blogs/mcallister_on_software/144189/windows_7_in_2009.html
Yep 98 was great for me, i used it till june 2004 would still use it if newer games would still run with 98
