I agree totally, Rena, especially that the servers need to be watched more closely by admins. I think a team of admins from the Server Admins Corner forum would be great, to select admins who are very active across many servers and have rcon be available to them.

this problem i had ages with 2!S Freeze!

i let it pb 0 and pure 0, i tryed pb over and over, 1st time, server stayed empty, so 0 again, 2nd time server was populated with arround 5 percent of normal usage, off again, 3rd time, server was populated with maybe 15 percent, off again, 4th time server stayed populated.

The same thing happend after the 4th pb try with pure.

So, before 2!S Freeze was populated with pb+pure i tryed it arround 6 or 7 months, step by step, i gave the people time u set their q3.

Since months the server is now pb+pure, and it is populated (fix port meanwhile). Since it is pure and pb, i barely have seen new players on it. For new players i have the other servers without pb+pure, and if a new player like the mod, he will look out, how he can play for example on freeze or 1on1 server.

Its a matter if an admin can w8 or not. I just can tell, that it is pain in the ass for the payer of the server if server stays empty and money has for me a big weight.

Concerning the non-pb/pure servers, i would suggest a server-broadcast shown from time to time, something like
"THIS IS A QUAKE 3 MOD - visit www.excessiveplus.net and its forums for downloads and information!"

Probably would lead some new guys on the right path.

gah...wonko just decided to delete 3 paragraphs he wrote on the whole thing and make it short.

u could approach the issue of how to popularize ur server different ways i guess....(not an "Experienced" server admin therefore "noob" to the thing so u mite want to ignore my comments)...

1. better names....difficult to see that something as simple as this could affect the popularity of a server..but to put it bluntly a "noob" will choose a server with a better name, all other things being approximately equal, simply becuase he doesnt know better....offered a choice between say "usa-hk freeze server" and "Deex's freeze orgy" he/she/it will inevitably choose the latter....pretty demonstrable fact...

2. make allowances - err consider that all ur comments, messages etc on the server itself are mostly not aimed at the "experienced" player..cos he/she/it already knows the stuff anyway....so keep it simple...make sure ur getting the message across....most servers i know dont even try to educate their players about the existence of e+.net spider and forums....

3. admining - the key issue for me is that almost NEVER do u find an admin on the server....i think e+ needs a better system of admining..there need to be more admins/ more active admins....plus u need to let people know that admins even though not available on the server will respond to enquiries/complaints/suggestions immediately (as in within a day)....and u need to do it too...

but all these may seem and often are rather academic points....simple state of the matter is that e+ has way too many servers considering the number of people playing e+....i guess we need to quantify this idea if we need to perhaps consider cutting down on the server number?....cos i mean all is well when u say ur clan needs a private server to train and do cws and stuff but really if ur prepared to pay the money to have a server for ur clan and have it empty most of the time its ur call....
