Thanks for the tips! I feel it's getting more complex than I thought...

I found that there is more than skills to achieve the same performance, at least in my case. I know there are players out there that play the same, regardless the conditions they are playing on. But these is all the variables that affect my gamestyle:

- Mouse position relative to the keyboard
- Laptop position relative to the chair
- Temperature (can't play if it's too hot or too cold)
- Stickiness on the mouse pad/mouse: some gooey stuff comes out of my hand and sticks to the mouse pad, causing more friction between rat and pad.... and no, I do not masturbate on this comp
- Mouse pad surface: changes friction when I clean it, depending on cleaning method: window cleaner? pledge? spit on it? Shock
- Position of the headphones... if I'm playing for hours with the headphones on, and suddenly they move a fraction of an inch, then they feel different and I can't concentrate on the game anymore
- Personal factors:
> Pressure: the more pressure I have on me, the worse I play
> Score: the worse my score is, the less accuracy I achieve
> Mood: if I'm in a bad mood, everything goes wrong... and the only thing that gets me in a good mood is playing well in quake, so this will never work.
> Food: can't play right after eating.

Am I going insane? It all started when I tried for weeks to learn CTF moves from KEA and Seal, and suddenly I lost all my aim and gamestyle. I can't seem to get it back !!

It sounds stupid, but quake has become a great part of me. I got a lot of satisfaction from this game (out of the very few satisfactions you get in life) and I can't f*ck this up....

PS: Good to see you necro and cunt !!

Actually, I'm about the same way lining up keyboard/chair/monitor/surface and mouse. Temp affects me until I get into the game, then I tend to block everything out and just fall into the monitor. Winking

I know what you mean though, sometimes I feel like I make a big advancement in one way or another only to take a step backwards in another aspect of my playing. I suppose it's only natural, as everyone learns and adapts to things differently -- what it tells me is that there's a lot more to it than simply connecting and owning, especially for people like us who are REALLY into games. Big grin

PS Cunt and I are doing well, I'm writing this on her comp right now. Winking

Necro, now that you mention that, I noticed something strange these past days.

I've been training in DM17 with gauntlets and always finish 50 frags in around 1.20ish with good accuracy. Now I noticed that not only i don't get even close to 1.20, I get A LOT of rail shots that I see they go right through the gauntlet and don't kill him ??? WTF is wrong with that? So many times I've seen shots going thru players or bots and still don't kill them?

Am I getting old and have some delay with my sight? Thinking

woh woh guys, massive paranoia Surprise Relax, and play how you play. Happy Forget the mousepad position relative to the table/chair.
(It does help by the slightest amount... I guess.... Thinking)

Not a good idea playing DM17 for lengthy periods of time. Perhaps for warmups, a few games, but not continually.. Cool

I thought only I have sometimes such a bad noob days. Actually I'm not alone... Big grin

Very good information about factors mariano and it's definetely very useful Topic! I'm started to understand that last days I have here in Estonia temperature about 40 degrees and I'm getting very sweat during the play and mouse pad(qpad) and rat's friction goes shitty + sticky hands + nervous condition because of loosing...

Now I will try to play not getting sweat Winking

P.S. Summer is not the best season to sit all day long at the computer playing q3 hard... Cool

Mariano, if you look at the link here ( http://www.ra.is/unlagged/faq.html ) and click I just railed and missed...but I hit – or – I just railed and hit...but I missed!, you'll see some shots where viewing the hitbox is enabled. Sometimes (especially when viewing your opponent from angles or while they're in the air, depending on the model) the hitbox isn't exactly lining up with where you'd expect it to in relation to the rest of the model. Thinking Interesting thing... I noticed it myself long ago also...

my solution... don't play on servers where the hitbox size is tweaked to be larger than most other servers. That'll really screw you up. Laughing

Edit -- Using (.WASP.) Rail-Only cfg (rail cycle 1,100), 40 fraglimit, dm17: 1:10, 80% accuracy. Cool

np. One thing I've found does help when playing with ping 100ms and above -- especially if the server is also a bit laggy or there are a lot of players is

/cg_railtrailtime 150

Try it out once and check the difference in your rail usage. It feels much more natural.

Edit -- Ooops, that's in the article. loooooooool
