IMO the best thing you can do is to turn off your computer if doing homework/studying, it sure distracts me when I have it on. But I guess it comes down to your discipline really. About good excuses for not showing up in school I used to be the master of this, it started off as a fun thing, but then escalated into a sport of who could come up with more plausible lies etc, etc. As we say in Sweden, honsety last the longest. But for me it became a necessity as I needed to keep my student grant.

This is largely a misconception, the nurse at each school has proffesional secrecy just as long they do not have substantial reason to belive that one student is ill or in other ways is in any danger. If thats the case, the nurse has a duty to inform social authorities and the parents. Dunno if it applies to your example tho.
