You are right. But at the time, I did not read it carefully as I was in a bad mood because someone else did post (elsewhere in the WASP2 Forum) some idiotic comments that I deleted. Consequently, I was in "Delete Mode" and very sensitive to any perceived "meddling" in WASP/WASP2 affairs.

To give some more exact explaination.
Pure blocks any altering to the game in relation to the server, with other words, if u start ur q3 and connect to a pure server, everything will look same as if u would place ur q3 config on server and run the q3 of the server.
Servers in e+ with pure are supposed to contain no altering files, like weaponskins, lowexplosions etc.
If they do, u have to download them to be 'pure' in the eyes of the server.

In any other situation, pure will simply not let ur q3 client load files with scripts/graphics which alter ur q3 from the one of the server. (so getting unpure isnt rly possible as long as u dont alter pk3's)

specific things:
-pak9.pk3 is a high definition pk3 not by id software, it normally alters explosions, textures, sounds, models and more.
if u want to keep it without getting kicked by pb, rename it. (q3 loads pk3s backwards, so rather name it xyz.pk3 then a.pk3)
If we would just use pb, we couldnt detect such renamed pk3s, thats why pb without pure is like a toilet without toiletpaper.
On another note, considering fragbox, u could create models bigger then the hitbox to actually improve reactiontime making it kinda like a wh.

-there is a limit of pk3s, if u got to many, ur q3 will simply crash

-if u got maps in excessiveplus folder, u just can use them while running e+, if u got them in baseq3, u can run them under any mod.
my theorie to the autodownload is, that the server has the file under excessiveplus, thats why it downloads to there.

TY SkullSoul. I did not know about Q3 loading the pk3's by reverse alphabetical order.

Minor correction: I have come across references to several different pak9.pk3 files over my 9 years (since Jan 2000) of playing Q3. The pak9.pk3 file that I mentioned above was simply a customized pk3 file with a single crosshair (.tga graphic) to replace one of the default Q3 crosshairs.

I used to take pak9.pk3 files from HERE and remove all but one of the crosshairs. This way I had a custom crosshair plus 8 of the original 9 Q3 crosshairs to use on any server.

If I played on a Pure Server I would not get kicked but my custom crosshair would be replaced by the 9th original Q3 crosshair.

Since Nov 2007, I have hosted DHF with the "Pure Server" crosshair packs from HERE and now use one of the packs without issue at Pure and unPure Servers in the USA and Europe.
