New album from Slayer! :bounce: After the return of Dave Lombardo for Christ Illusion a few years back I thought they'd do one more album more in their more recent style (but with Dave on drums) and then retire. This album should definitely be the last for Slayer, they're all approaching 50 years old and...

but what's this? They don't sound as if they've aged a bit since Seasons In The Abyss. Yet another timeless band has released a new album that sounds better than anything they've done in almost 20 years. Is it a sign? A return of metal? You be the judge.

As for World Painted Blood I find enough of the "old Slayer" to be satisfied and enough new elements, experimentation and interesting ideas to keep it from being just recycled material (a la Divine Intervention, Diabolus In Musica and God Hates Us All). And Dave's drumming is just INCREDIBLE. Jeff and Kerry's lead work must be heard to be believed, these guys must be getting younger Smug

So, rabid Slayer fans. Discuss.

Pushing 50 or not,well i don't think age matters at all when it comes to these guys(ofc Arya's backproblems might be agerelated in some way Winking ). They have proven themselves worthy once again with this album. And i sure hope they will get their asses to Sweden during -10.

They have managed to mix 'oldskool' slayer sound with a newish Slayer goes punkrock style type of sound,not always as brilliant as i would like it but wth. The album as a whole has the "Jansson seal of approval" and have been tested accordingly.
I would hold 'Unit 731' and 'Public Display of Dismemberment' as my favourite tracks,on the latter Lombardos drums are 1000 mphslayerfast and i like it Happy I would say that this is one of the top 3 Slayer albums ever.
Am i a rabid Slayer fan? Hell yeah!
Return of metal? Was it ever gone??

I gave it a fair listen. Ain't my jar of cookies (most Thrash ain't), it bored me a bit. Some nice stuff going on in 'Unit 731', by far the best track on the album, IMO.

I must say that i like new Slayer album, its in their typical style, reminds me a Christ Illusion sometimes. Good to see that their 10th album is quality album as well.
