need help with server setup
hello there,i need some help setting up a server , i never did that so i have some questions: 1- how do i register my server on the spider, and if e+ do that automatically so what port should i open for that ??2- how do i set the outgoing server port, i mean like 20.30.40.50:70970 , p.s. i know that 70970 is the standard port, but what if i wanna change it
i guess that's all , i didnt even try to make the server yet and now im gonna go and play a little with the configs so maybe i will find the answers by my self but i might not so if you know the answers dont be greedy
thanks alot in advance ,max
standart port is 27960.
btw, got a root? or dedicated server online?
because running a internet server from your home pc is pretty senseless.
you can only specify port number in range 0..65535 (two bytes, unsigned int), and it's recommended to use values higher than 1023.
if you want to change the default port, you can set desired value of net_port cvar in q3config.cfg, like this:
seta net_port "27960"
or in command line, like this:
quake3.exe +set fs_game excessiveplus +set net_port 29760 +exec server.cfg
as for registering server in spider, e+ should do it automatically, since sv_master5 is forced to point to e+ master server. so, normally you only need your net_port to be accessible outside.
I wouldnt say running a server from home is sensless. I ran mine from home for 3 months befor I switched to gameservers and funny thing is the server was alot more busy befor the switch. Beware that your isp may not like you to run a server and if you are behind a router things get a little tricky.

it mostly is, you have bad routing depending on your routing knot which can incrase ping drastically compared to online servers.
btw, he is located in jordan, so I don't think he has a good connection nor people will ever have a good ping.
Bert ran a regular server (he was located in nl) with his 5mbits down 2mbits up, it supported regular ping and stability for over 10 persons so
