Not the best, but I'd like to share
check out a program called Propellerhead Reason 3.0, its a virtual studio which is really good for sequencing drums patterns (especially the kind of hip hop you guys are making) the only downside is that you cannot record vocals into the program as far as i know. I been DJ for 10+ years and producing tracks for about 6 (still quite basic tracks)
set up:
2 X Technics 1210 Mk2 Turntables
1 X Vestax PMC-05 Pro II Scratch Mixer
Audiophile 2496 Soundcard
Proteus 2000 Sound Module
Evolution 249c Keyboard
Programs i use are Reason, Cubase, SoundForge
I have loads of useful ebooks you are welcome to have, just add me on msn and ill send you them.

I have a friend i keep calling Jew, even though Im not Jewish (and i call another on "gypsy" - as well), because of all the quote "hype" unquote before the borat movies... it'd funny cos in a way cos my dad comes from Kazakhstan... btw, in a close circle, their nicknames stuck
