performance problems
My friend is having a problem running this quake III excessive mod.
He has for starters a amd 1.4 GHZ computer with a radeon 9700 pro 128 mb
graphics card. He has dsl for internet connection. We tried playing it one night and he kept getting this internet connection failed signal on his computer. I looked at his ping and he was getting in the 300's. He adjusted
his settings to low for his graphics but that did not help. We also had
team speak running, would that cause a problem with the game performance? I know quake III doesn't run to well without high speed
internet, but he has dsl. Or I was thinking that maybe because we had a
few bots in there also that would slow it down. We also adjusted the weapons so they were more powerful than normal. Thanks for any response!!! Nickster
u ran the server on ur home connection?
My one friend ran the server at home and me and my friend who had the problem joined. The guy who ran the server had high speed cable modem.
how many mbits/s?
because u should try that under 1 mbit upload.
at least 1 mbit upload or more.
I was able to host a server for 2 people + bots with comfortably low pings on 512kbit down 64kbit up. Of course, we are living near each other.
how much upload do you have?
is Verizon your ISP? If so I would assume you are capped at ~ABOUT~ 10KB/s (90-100Kbps) upload which is really no good for anything, specially if other people are using the net.
if it's not a problem with his down/up rates it could be hardware (modem, etc) but i would look at the down/up caps first (google internet speed test or something to guage it unless you have a better tool)
oh and surely if the host is talking on a poor net connect (low upload rate or really poor down rate) that could be a good source of the lag. Usually people only have upload transfer rate problems so (you sending the information out) not download (you receiving the information) assuming that the connection is running at least 1mbps down
