ofc yes, you can't replace the peer-to-peer relationships watching movies or reading a book, but you can feel better with yourself when the knowledge is of your side.

knowledge based on movies/books about other people's experiences with people can prepare you for some situations because they give you opportunity to think about what would you do if you were in that kind of situation before it happens, so if/when it happens you're better prepared than you would be if it came out of the blue, but thats that... you can't replace practical experience cause it gives you more info, develops your feel for "reading people" (if they are telling you the truth), understanding their body language, developing your intuition...
