Q3 Stutter Problem need help ><
well.... my problem is after i installed some new components in my computer i am having the problem of Q3 freezing completely (including a little sound looping) for about half a second then it resumes....and this happens every 2 or 3 mins and continues for the duration of my game.
my specs are:
Pentium D 805 2x2.66ghz 2x1mb cache 533 fsb
Elitegroup P4M800-M7
2x512Mb DDR400 non matched pair
ATI Radeon 9800pro 128mb 256-bit
samsung spinpoint 80gb 7200rpm 2mb cache
old specs
Pentium 4 3ghzHT 512k cache 800fsb
gigabyte 8S661FXMP-RZ
2x512Mb DDR400 non matched pair
ATI Radeon 9800pro 128mb 256-bit
samsung spinpoint 80gb 7200rpm 2mb cache
any help would be very appreciated as its killing my game
Edit: and i dont think my overclock is the problem before you point that out as it happened aswell before i started o/cing

1. drivers?

2. maybe cpu is overheating and its lovering its speed?
>check cooler
3. Adware/Virus
>scan hdds :}
Hmm, is this happening in other applications that use 3d hardware acceleration ? If yes, it's probably one of the things Faith pointed out. If it's a q3 only problem...
1. Try moving/deleting ALL your q3config files and run quake, letting it reset game settings to default.
2. If that won't work try to put this line in your q3config (either the one located in baseq3 folder or the one located in excessiveplus folder):
seta com_hunkmegs "256"
3. If the problem persists still, you'll probably want to reinstall your Q3.
well on the other hand quake3 is opengl and css is direct3d. so it can still be the drivers.
but it is possible you have some wierd leftovers in cfg. check what graphics are declared in it.
I asume you are using Windows XP ?
As i have a simular graphics card it could be the drivers.
I have tried Catalyst 6.4 a couple of times and they seem to screw every game up ive tried. Best results i get is from Catalyst 6.3.
I think this might be the same if you are using Windows 2000.
Cat 6.4 also screws up the latency for the graphics port, but changing that to optimum value of 64 is not helping either. So that can also be ruled out.
Hope it helps.
ill try the drivers thats the only other thing ...cs: s works flawlessly. i turned my overclock back to stock and its still happening...i got an aftermarket heatsink yesterday and it sits at about 40 idle 50 load so i dont think so....my HD reads 28 and my rams at stock speeds with relaxed timings now if drivers dont work ill try moving Q3 but i dont got q3 install CD
