My mum's dog that we have had for 9 years has been ill over the past 6wks, she had many treatments over that time but she quickly went down hill in the past week or so, she hasnt eaten or drank any water in about 5 days. Yesterday I took her for an emergency repeat scan (previous scan didnt show anything).
The vet contacted me at about 11.30am yesterday and told me she had a very aggressive cancer of her liver and spleen. They said she would have to be put to sleep, she would have no quality of life.
I went over to my mums house (she is 75) and broke the devastating news to her.
We brought pebbles home for her last few hours, all the children came around to see her.
My mum had to make the decision to have her put to sleep at home with Mum, My sister and myself present. Because my mum physically would not be able to go and would not have been able to say goodbye.
They shaved her front leg the vet inserted the syringe in a vein but because pebbles veins were on the point of callapse, she had to use the other leg, pebbles did cry and she was obviously scared (thank god my mum didnt hear her cry).
My mum was crying and I was holding her.
They asked me to sign a consent form, but I couldnt, I felt like we were killing our precious pebbles, I was saying over and over in my mind, omg what are we doing, omg what are we doing. Is she really sick, are they making a mistake?, Before they started I wanted to push them away and scream at them.
Pebbles went all limp and she was at peace, no longer suffering. At 4.20pm Thursday 05 July
That was the most horrible thing in my life it was absolutley awfull.
Our beutiful little Pebbles is no more.
