ok people, im not sure of the feasibility of this, but you can look and then you will know as much as me - i am not an expert with this and as well, i am not sure if this has been brought up previously.
just read the email i was sent a while back and then read the link, for those in the know it should be self explanatory.
maybe i have the wrong idea about it, maybe it is not what i think, you decide.

The advantage of IOQuake3 is that it fixes many bugs and allows for URL
redirect for the fast downloading of custom maps/mods, etc. IOQuake3 is
typically compatible with all Quake 3 1.32 custom maps and mods. A Quake
3 1.32 client can join an IOQuake 3 server and vice-versa (as long as
PunkBuster is disabled). The advantage of using the IOQuake 3 client,
when connecting to an IOQuake 3 server, is URL redirect will work (if
configured properly) and there a lot of bug fixes.

was this a piece of useless crap? or is it no good for needs here?

basicaly what i can make out is it lets you download maps from the server (via a redirect) at more than 11kps (at full bandwidth) - is compatible with all mods under 1.32 client. is the answer to a few problems - but as i said i dont fully understand it.

anyone?

as far as i can see the client also needs to have it.

so its not really usefull.

I am proud of spreading a pirated Excessive Plus version and claim to be the original author, yay!

if you want e+ working in ioq3, you need to pass around all the resources that e+ needs (dont know if they all fall under the open licence)

you can have both q3a and ioq3 connections on a server (i dont have a link, but i know it is possible... see world of padman and urbanterror)

edit: just remembered... there might be problems with having an anticheat working with ioq3 tho!

yeah according to to teh readme it dont work with pb, didnt realise you needed the client as well, kinda makes things a bit arkward.
I had teh idea it worked in sympathy with 1.32 and automaticly let the d/loads begin, once i get the time to play about with it - i will see how it goes on my serevr, till then on stand by.. thanks for answers.

Actually, OpenArena uses ioQuake 3 and the redirect is very fast, plus it works with E+.

It must just need to be compiled properly with libcurl running -- apparently the binaries on the ioquake3 aren't compiled correctly:

Cool

Here are versions of ioquake3 that are supposed to support the redirect, you need both client and server binaries:

http://home.isp.studenten.net/algemeen/ioq3svn_precompiled/r1250/

Format for redirect:

set sv_allowDownloads "1"
set sv_dlURL "http://mydomain.com/mygamefolder"

It's recommended that you mirror your server's directory structure at the redirect location.

Cool

P.S. Link provided by one of the developers of ioQuake3.

esc-tur your hard work would be in vain. if you could somehow get the devs interested and supporting this then it would be great Big grin
