[Resolved] Cant write to my baseq3/q3config file
Hello, I'll start up by describing what has happened since the last time my quake3 was working.
On my last system I installed Quake III Arena (from clean installation files) to my Program Files (Win 7/64) (For the first time after a while of reinstalling systems, I just started over due to losing the files I had.
After a while (going to the period I describe as "now") I have installed a new system also (Win 7/64) and moved my Quake III Arena folder to my Program Files in an analog of the previous system. Usually it always worked fine and without any problems for years while I changed system after system, and only now do I have problems.
The problem is that when I open up Quake III Arena, go to Mods and choose E+, whether I am in the Menu or ingame I can not save any variable, bind, command to my config.cfg.
The error I get (whatever command I use that normally gets saved in the q3config.cfg) is
Couldn't write q3config.cfg
Couldn't write baseq3
I was thinking of reinstalling my overall Q3, but the problem is I do not have the installation files (due to a virus corrupting my files) and I am a bit lazy to search for them on the internet.
I also thought that the problem might be because my CFG was named for example "Myown.cfg", but I checked and my cfg is named by default "q3config.cfg".
Anyone know what might the issue be?
Thanks beforehands!
I assume that you are having an access problem caused by non-admin user level. Try moving the Quake folder from "C:\Program Files" to another location where your user account has write-access, like "C:\Games".
or better solution if you dont want to move whole q3 folder. Change owner for whole C:/ and apply change to all subfolders and included files. When youre owner, you can set full rights to your user account. In real its not so fast and easy but its good to know how to change ownership and access rights because sometimes you can find on hdd some files which you cant delete (for example after reinstallation of Windows) and this is only one way how to solve that problem.
Thank you Bozo, that was the problem. I kind of feel stupid now that I didn't think of something so simple
Thanks again!
