Roccat Kone Review
So some people asked me to do a review here...here it is
First impressions:
I was really excited to get a hold of this mouse from all the hype i have been seeing from their website, nice graphics and good marketing In August i got my hands on one at i34, the biggest LAN party in the UK, and i instantly fell in love with the shape and texture they used...It's sort of like the same texture as the deathadder, not plastic but slightly rubberized so your hands dont sweat as much The teflon feet are really quite a large surface area, and the weights they provide, even though i find them completely pointless, are pretty good and come in a nice case
I didn't get to play with it at a PC then cos it wasn't even in beta, just a prototype model
The packaging it comes in is quite simple, made from polystyrene (you might think quite cheap) but i think it does the job perfectly, no excess boxes or millions or stuff just a really nicely designed box, u might not care but as a designer i know how important this is so some pics
Buttons:
I find with some mice these days they seem to vary with how many buttons they have...like the G7 doesnt have a forward button only a back, the early G5 the same (but the mx518 has one? ) so its nice to see a mouse that has back, forward, dpi changers and also side scrolling if needed (which for design comes in handy
I think compared to the mx518/G series mouse, the pressure needed to click is a bit higher but of course it will lighten up with time, just with it being new. The only downside to the buttons I think is that the middle click is too stiff...but it's not really a critical factor
Tracking:
When i first got this mouse I used it on an old style steelpad 5L with the green textured surface...and well, the tracking was playable but intermittant. Every now and then it would just give up on the movement i made and just stay still...I read into it a bit and found that laser sensors work best on plain black surfaces so, I ordered the roccat taito mousepad to accompany it and now it tracks perfectly
Drivers:
You couldn't ask for much more from the drivers to be honest...it allows for a lot of tweaking for all you @senstest players out there
Something new that no other mouse has done before is the TCU - Tracking Control Unit...basically, it calibrates itself to whatever surface you are using for the optimum performance. Personally I have no idea how useful this is and I don't see how it really affects the mouse as I tried it with and without and theres hardly any difference...but I have it turned on anyway because hey, it sounds ultimately cool
The drivers also allow you to change mouse polling rate on the fly This is somethin logitech should really work on building into their drivers as i know they dont have it yet...maybe im wrong but razer mice do and is really helpful
Something fun about the drivers also means you can change the colour of the mouse...not critical to have but can really make it look quite nice
Negatives:
Can't really find much wrong with the mouse itself, I set it to 1000hz at first as this is what I had my old mx518 set to and the gaming was unplayable...the screen looked like it was tearing all the time when i made too much of a sharp movement so i set it to 500hz, now it seems fine... I guess this problem could go for any mouse though when ur tweaking polling rates.
Conclusion:
I think this is one of the best mice on the market at the moment, i really like the sensor they used (3200dpi laser) which is a first because normally ive been an optical fan boy but i find it really nice. The price is a bit much, but its around the same for all new products entering this market so I guess it comes at no shock at £50 or €61...I would say its worth it
Hope u enjoyed reading, found it useful if ur thinking of buying this mouse and if u alraedy have this mouse and want to post any more details for people feel free.

If this gear will not be good, send it to me
Hey thats what i was about to say!
edit: should this thread to be moved into general discussion?
agreed. done.
well, it has to be offtopic, since generell discussion is e+-related only?!
dunno where it was before.

@ tyr
nice post anyway. pitty, that i have already a brand new mouse, i read this again in 2-3 years
Most likely this one should be in Client Setup and Configuration
It was in offtopic, but this is sortoff e+ related, since it helps you play the mod. And i do not think it belongs or deserves to be burried in the spam of offtopic.
So off to the board where i planned to send it in the first place (i just woke up, don't blame me for being slow).
