Re: Serious packet loss problem

I tryed your solution skull, it make me have less frequently and less packet los when it comes, now q3 is back to a playable game for me but I can't leave my pc in this way.

I tryed to change cfg and restart firewall but nothing has changed.

How have u checked/solved the "bad" hardware ultra?

Re: Serious packet loss problem

I bought new power supply, hard drive and graphics card after the service guy said it burned... Sad
try to replace components one by one, by yourself, if you can (you can do this if you have 2 power supplies, 2 disks) and find out with which one pc works fine and with which it has problems...
edit: btw I strongly recommend backuping your data before doing anything Winking

U can disable it in BIOS and install new one.

But first be sure what exactly is broken, even new can be damage fast.

So check ur hardware (CPU, GPU, memory, motherboard and etc).

Re: Serious packet loss problem

r_smp was already setted to 0. If you mean that I have to set the affinity with the q3 process at 1 only cpu in the task menager, I tryed it but it makes me lag worst then ever.

For now i think is not a good idea buy and change hws without know if it's really broken...

Thank you

Re: Serious packet loss problem

A tutorial i've done to help troubleshooting and fixing this kind of problems :

http://superbots.co.cc/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1

May or may not be of use...

Another theory : this may comes from a bad pk3 that overwrites the engine with some bad functions (it happened to me once), a tutorial to troubleshoot that :

http://superbots.co.cc/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=7

But as you said, it helped you to remove some processes, so this may be the good way to go.

Could you make a scan with HijackThis and copy/paste the report here please ?

/EDIT : Ah, you're italian XD Italian ISPs are known to be very laggy and troubleful. You may try to ask your ISP about this issue, or search over the net on forums about similar problems, particularly on italian forums. There's one for the OpenArena community, you may find some valuable help there :

Re: Serious packet loss problem

I have not open arena, so i can't find that folder and file, anyway as i said i have reinstalled q3 1 moth ago.
I tryed to change all var on your guide, but nothig has changed.
Down the screen and the Hijackthis log.
Edit:Italian isps are not so good unless you pay an expensive price. Anyway I have this loss with 2 different isp and is very strange packet loss: is not continuos and it arrive at high value, you can also check my ping with some server in the previous page, I think is a hw or sw problem.

Re: [solved]Serious packet loss problem

Since i did some test i'm sure of what was the problem. Two days ago i cleaned the dust inside my laptop(fun and squanderer), now i have no more high packet loss like the one i described. I'm quite sure that the lag was linked to the overheating. Thanks to all.
