To gamers and musicians
Hello,
I'm asking for gamers and musicians who uses low latency interface (ASIO etc. ...) to do records or music processing that needs this kind of hardware.
I am using one and I'm planning to buy a better one because mine seems too weak actually. Using it to record myself in home studio and for huge processing tracks, I was thinking about using this power to "enhance" the sound of games.
For example, by making a ASIO bridge (my ASIO output->ASIO output->ASIO input->my ASIO output), I have been able to try some stereo imaging, "decompressors", etc. ...
I know it's artifical enhancements, and it wasn't made at all for this kind of use, though, it's incredibly nice ingame since it doesn't decreases signal quality and I can make a difference between an enemy walking 50 centimeter or 1 meter in front of me. I am able to place exactly the sound on the map.
Simply explained it could be resume at the first part of this videos (headset advised) :
But those loops and sound processing needs a huge processing power and increase sound latency (<1 second), even with ASIO soundcard.
As soundcards for gamers are overpriced and cannot do this kind of hard work at all, I am asking to gamers who are also musicians here, and I know there are few ones who could advise me a soundcard which can do this hard work without increasing latency.
Of course, it is possible, avoid 4K€ solutions
Thanks for answers.
i don't know but i'd also be happy to get a recommendation!
sound hax at a whole new level , congratz!
sound hax at a whole new level , congratz!
anyone can play with equalizers that come bundled with driver software for sound cards. Its the same shit in a different coat.
In that case we should call everyone, with high end systems, performance haxors, just because rendering goes quicker for them even when using highpoly models.
btw i'm not really interested in that sound for gaming thing, but a good, reasonably priced soundcard for musicians because back when i bought my pc i listened to some gaming magazine and got myself a pretty shitty soundcard, at least for purposes of recording.
Yet your stuff doesn't sound so bad rix !
so you finally listened to it
well, it actually doesn't sound so bad considering the methods i recorded most of that stuff (some parts were 10€ tablemic+ acoustic western guitar with guitar rig on the other side).
but i wont ever be able to be productive with that kind of setup (what i sent you was almost everything id recorded throughout a period of a few years).
so you will not achieve the volume of the sound. you need to position the speakers in an equilateral triangle with respect to your head, and use a stereo expander to achieve optimum amount. and use ASIO to improve the sound of the game makes no sense.
Thanks for answers.
But no, it's not "sound hack", the sounds of Quake III Arena are not modified. They are still at 44,1 Khz too and the engine of the game return it as the same flat way it does.
The ASIO driver is just useful to have a low latency <1ms when you use sound processing. Stereoize it, expanding it etc. will just position it more clearly and more friendly for the ears. It's just a kind of stupe.
The interesting thing is I'm using this for music recording and often straightly on my sound output, so it avoid recurring changes.
It is nice but it needs also "good power" for this sound processing, and so, my actual sound card (ASIO USB) cannot do the whole work with the ASIO bridge without making a delay lower than 1 second (!).
Since all gamers sound cards are just for useless surround or pathetic effects enhancement, I'm searching for a capable sound card that may do the job without going into professional solutions (4K€ soundcards).
Like Rix, many players here are making music and may use their sound hardware for the gaming also. That's why I'm asking what they are using or what they could advise.
So Rix, and Nether, you seem to have some knowledge about it. What kind of hardware are you using? And what kind of work are you doing with it?
