my rought guess:

if you are browsing with 2 windows and you are in 2 different sections, then the other gets labeled guest.
and maybe if you went from general discussion to offtopic, you creat a new guest yourself that was viewing general discussion and your own name will appear as to be in offtopic now.

Hmm, seems logical enough.

But, even tho my memory isn't exactly a thought cage, i don't remember such an influx of guests up until recently (i'd say, this started a week or two ago). And there were always ppl opening new windows with E+ etc... so wtf? Straight face

5 to 10 guests could originate from 1 person.

Ok. I forgot to take any screenies, but i've noticed today, around 5 am, 26 guests. Actually, there is always a quite large number of guests around, regardless of the hour. These guests are completely random.

Now, either the forums are suffering from an attack of rabid lurkers, or these guests are artificial. I think admins should look into this.
