I typed "chess" in between quotation marks, trying to show it has a special meaning. The beauty of "chess" -- the beauty of thinking.
I still don't get it. To me quake is all about instinct and predicting. "Reading the game" as I like to say when I have to describe how I play.No need to be a genius stratagem?

Well in chess you have chess pieces (king, horse, rook...) imagine them as all weapon on q3, cuz you have to know which weapon to use, you wont be succesful with sg in wide distance also not with rocket so theres rail, mg, pg or lg you can chose, also these 4 are not always usefull, so it depends on situation.
This is the strategical part, the intuitional and predicting part is when you imagine what your opponet will do next, where she/he walks, which item takes (egg. ra, ya, mega, weapon items) and which weapon will use in combat. So like in chess when you try to predict next move of your opponent. So in fact you can compare vq3 with chess, speedy cfgs are more focused on speed and strong weapons, more reflex than strategy, more nimbly aim than intuition. But as i mentioned a full package makes E+ what it is, a open door for everything...
Switching weapons in the right situation is an automatism you get from time, you don't switch to shotgun on close range because you asked yourself if you should and tried thinking about the next move.
I'm what you would call a "pretty good player", I did play some maps on your server and the only thing I lacked was map and item spawn knowledge. Apart from that the gameplay still sounds "natural" to me because I know how to "read the game". And I can tell you I have no idea how to play chess.
So I would describe it like this, in vq3 you have more time to "read the game" than E5 or Plus configs.And if that's what you meant by chess, I agree even though the word is really badly chosen.

Yeah basically you are right but this automatism is coming from somewhere, the roots are in strategys and after a time you dont need to think that much, you just know what to do from automatism.

I did play some maps on your server and the only thing I lacked was map and item spawn
Items spawn points is leaved by map setting in .bsp and Items are spawning in vq3 timings ( mega ~ 35 sec. ra & ya ~ 25 sec.) Players spawning as far as possible, the prob is when server is full you dont have many spawn points anymore so it can happen that you spawn close to opponent, but we set a spawnprotection for 3 sec.If you have any recommendation, pls share with us.

I play chess, and i can tell you there are inded several similarities, you have to predict opponents move and you have to chose the right chess piece (weapon). When you chosen wise at both things, Stalemate. (frag)
