Where E+ is going?
i would like to talk about the mod we are in , now.i have been here around a year , some of us have been here for three to four years...or so...
E+ is still alive...and ass kicking.
well that is good news.especially , when i see lot of other mods dying completely.Please , i dont want you to read negatively what i am saying here , but , q4 was raising high hopes ,that the quake adventure will go on , and fears that q3 mods will die because of q4...i rememeber when it was about to be released ; some clans were already starting to think about moving to q4.well ,as time goes by , i see , it is not the case.
the discussion i want to start here,isnt only about E+.but about whole quake 3 arena.as u know q3 source code have been released some time ago , just before release of q4 , like a way to say , ok , community , take the baby , we dont need it anymore , we have better.
and now it is proven ,not true!.
today, q3 is still alive , and have been even chosen , by the cpl league to be the game that will be played on 1v1 tournaments.
but in the mean time...q3 community is really decreasing.as HQ told me on msn...q3 community, isnt like counter strike's , we are a community wich is split in slices btw various mods , and this mods are starting to be less and less.
as ,part of the action of making q3 , this great game , still alive , u can thank E+ team , who have made this mod possible,so it can attract more and more players into this game , and all the map developpers that are still doing what they like most,event makers ,etc..etc..
today , imo we are part of the three most active mods in q3 ,we arnt backed up by ID software like cpma or osp is...but we are very active , and still creative.
so my questions here is this :
1/ how far have we gone in this three (4?) years we have been in this mod , are the players number increasing?
2/is there ways to make the mod bigger ?
The answer to most of your questions can be answered best probably by the ppl that are here from the beginning.Ive talked to quite a few of those old timers and they say there were like 10-20 ppl in the beginning.So,did the number of players increase over this 2 years and 11 months (if im not mistaking)? It certainly did,as well as the number of servers.I mostly wanted to relate to your other question,because I dont quite understand what do u mean by bigger.Bigger as in to be noticed by or played by serious players from other pro mods? Or just bigger in sense of ppl.I for one would mostly like to see it get better.There are quite a few bugs atm,and some things that could easily be modified and added,which could make this mod even more enjoyable and fun to play.I really hope e+ team is reading our suggestions for e+ 1.04 and that they do something with those suggestions.Its also unclear to me,why dont they search for any help in this forum? I know there are programmers here who would gladly help them out,even if its only with the webpage.That way the e+ team could devote to the mod itself.
I think the power of this mod, what's going to make it last much longer than any other before it or since it has, is its flexibility. Not only is it made for an apparently limitless game engine (Q3), but the mod itself is infinitely customizable as well.
This could be used in favorable and disfavorable ways by everyone, depending on your likes and dislikes within the mod -- for ex. e5 players might generally dislike bro-like cfgs and vice versa, but developments within the e5 vs. bro groups advance E+ as a whole whether both groups like the developments or not.
So where are we going? I've been in the mod since December... only 9 months. I've seen so many changes already, but I feel like this 9 month period has been a gestation period for me, and now I'm ready to be truly born into the mod. An infant, a new noob!
Where we're going is not only up to the + team, but also to clans and regular players who have a desire to keep it growing as well. That's what I really want to say. I'm glad I feel I have something to say in this thread... it feels like a landmark.

Is this proved or just your opinion? Serious question coz I'm not playing other mods anymore. I bet there are statistics for things like that, does anybody know how e+ is ranked in q3 scenery?

<- Ah, ironic question, my favorite stylistic device.
I think what Casa meant (inter alia) is, how will e+ do in the future. The mod is still quite popular, but how will it be when q4 (or any other fps) has established his position in gamers world, positive development/increasing players/clans still assured for e+? I must confess, I've thought about this too from time to time, especially when q4 was released. I would miss community + mod so much and I'm sure I wouldn't give something else a try again like how I did it with e+.
...and I would like to know if those "old-timers" can remember me, can you ask them pls.
Comunity
Q3 is greatest ever maded game for internet, and IMO will be long time. It is verry hard make movie second edition after first edition which is huge accomplishment.
But my point here will not be only a game. Game is only enviroment. Comunity is what is count. I think that comunity enviroment and people is key of success E+. That is effort of people which made this mod and comunity. After that comunity depence of people which come in time in comunity. For example, you have a lot countries which have almost same state system, but states and ppl. in it are all togheder away different.
Key of success one comunity is not only a game, key of success is people in comunity.
If we will be a strong, we can be last longliving Q3 comunity. All depence only onf us. We have great game and great mod and great people. What we need more ?

Actually I think Q1 was the best internet FPS game. And the comparasy to follow-up movies is kinda weird since E+ is played on Q3.. Quake 3. So Quake4 aint really a second edition to Quake 3 but a 4th edition to Quake 1
Q2 and Q4 are made for single player first, thats why those 2 were not, in my opinion, as good for multiplayer as Q1 and Q3. Q3 was created for multiplayer only thats why it is so good for it.
I am willing to bet that if there will be a Q5 that is designed for multiplayer that it will be as good as, or better, than Q3 once the mod communities have started working on it and the initial errors, annoyments are fixed.
Also, lets not forget that Q4 is still kinda new, there are not many mods out there yet that are out of beta and once some of the issues with the game itself are solved and we all have faster comps than today it may very well become as good as Q3.
And there are lots of games that are not first-person-shooters that are as good as Q3 for internet

@linus , open ASE,and select all q3 mods , and ping servers.u will find ,that most q3 online servers are firstly (not including baseq3 servers,wich are original),osp,then cpma ,E+-equally more or less with urban terror, then ra3,then,instaunllaggued , then maybe insta rail,then other little mods ,like ufreeze ,western,weapon's factory (dead or almost) .but yes someone has to do those statistics ,maybe i ll do them when i have time.
