Never seen any ATI user who did have no problemi dont
m, i have one problem with q3 gamma
sometimes it is very dark after running exe.
well, the cool script helps me
[code:1]//против глюков видеокарты от ати
set rg1 "set r_gamma 1.6; set rgg vstr rg2; echo r_gamma = 1.6"
set rg2 "set r_gamma 1.7; set rgg vstr rg1; echo r_gamma = 1.7"
set rgg "vstr rg1";
bind = "vstr rgg"[/code:1]
It seems nVidia beats Ati when it comes to openGL applications, whereas directX-apps have a similar performance on both. Ati therefor is known for it's supposedly better picture quality.
Also, in case you additionally use Linux or have in mind to, forget Ati for the time being.
Thus i'd also go with the GeForce 6600GT..
I,d have to agree on the 6800 or 6800gt for 3 reasons some of which may or may not apply to you.
#1. Driver support I,ve had ati cards and after awhile they tend to get pretty lax on updating them or outright ignore old chipsets in favor of new ones. Last ATI I ever bothered buying was a Rad 7800, that I bought as a cheap replacment for a blown card. "Which was my own fault btw" The ATI was about 2 years old and the only place I could find the drivers was from windows update and they were @ least 1 year old drivers there. Heck allthough I use the 5200 I can still find updated drivers for the MX400 series and older..
#2. Ease of configuration in an os other than windows. I like tinkering with other operating systems and hate to say it but @ least in my case nvidia won there also, I currently run mepis lite for now . But I didnt even need to install the driver on that which pretty much is never the case for ATI had to jump from page to page to find the right mesa libs to run it. I cant say that for all the distributions though just the ones I've bothered getting. ..
#3 Cost per unit and the ability to speed things up @ your own risk. If you look around youll see that a nv VPU compared to around the same preformance VPU in the ati market is allways a little less expensive. And as said in an earlier post alot of the value chips can be unlocked to become their more expensive cousin with a bios update or other utility. But beware as that,s how I blew the card I spoke of earlier, Never use stock cooling.
Double posted due to browser error sorry Mod,s feel free to delete. :oops:
WOW
Never knew I'd get so many replies, looks like I'll be getting nVidia 6600GT as you all say its better than Ati, thanks guys
But watch out for the brand,I recommend Leadtek or Gainward,IMO top 2.
jupp i would support the gainward too!
- not much expensive like msi/asus/etc
- never had problems with grainward
- a good choise between price/performance
and dont bye a Club3D card!!!
ati for president
