2 ways:
- uncheck "Client for Microsoft Networks" in the network stack list of your NIC. The computer can still be accessed for shares by using the machine's IP address in an UNC (ex: 192.168.0.2 etc).
- add a registry entry in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters
Create a new DWORD value called "Hidden" and set its value to 1. Reboot the machine and give it about 20 minutes or so and it will disappear from network neighbourhood.

You might wanna check out Untangle if you got some pretty decent computer specs: http://www.untangle.com/
It's open source, which makes most of its modules in the rack free and it's a pretty damn powerful firewall!
Thank you Trance and beazt for the replies. I was out of town so I couldn't see the forum until today. I will try both solutions and tell you what after, ...peace...
