Ok, I will agree on point number 5.
But why do you feel a person should be famous in a Q3 community for beeing a cool guy? Ever seen any Cool soccerplayers become famous for just beeing cool and having mediocre skills or none at all? Quake 3 is a competetitive game that require a lot of skills to play and IMO the respect from the community should be based on that skill. OR as you pointed out other things that will help that game evolve.
As I said, I have no respect for people that are famous for beeing famous without any effort other than showing themselves, like a TV-star in a RealityShow.
Aah, but you omitted the fact that this is a community. This isn't only the game. We do stuff different then playing all the time. Eg. you can gain respect through knowledge (cmds, hardware), or just for having a cool sense of humor.
Yeah, Arx put out what i had in mind. And with 4. i didn't mean "famous", more like "recognized", anyway. Btw, what if a great player is a complete and utter dickhead? Would you respect him them? I'd sooner have respect for someone that is around alot and i can have a nice chat with, than someone who performs amazing railshots but during the game constantly moans and provokes other players. Just my view.
Personalitly gains my full respect !!

I dont really like Carling, but I had 5 of them last nite (@ £1.80 per pint s' not bad )
I do like a spirit (with/ without mixers): 'Gac (Courvousier, love it but I rarely drink it - money talks ), Vodka (pure/ with red bull/ with coke), JD with coke, sumtimes pure, and Tequila (if you mix it with coke or lemonade, you shouold be shot
)
Movies - I like Sin City, Scarface, Pulp Fiction, 40 year old virgin and BASEketball (might as well add the 25th hour with Ed NOrton, cos I blabbed about it on almost every single interview)

I better stop before this post turns into a full-blown myspace account
And I do have a myspace account, but it's not finished so I kept it secret from every1 I know, apart from 2 people (1 by accident). I started it in August then 4got about it - im "working on it"
hadz i remember you ever since the Ray days and that green white tag i think people know me (suprisingly enough even the new people do) and i : 1. didnt post THAT much (maybe in the begginings but look at mad's post count now lol) 2. was NEVER a top-of-the-pops player, usually amongst the medium and (most importantly) 3. i never even tried to be known
im not bragging, all im saying is that you dont even have to try mate, and you shouldnt care if a million people know you. if you know that you have your own people that want to have feedback from and you have them, then you're good
look at it this way, what would you prefer, a million people knowing a bit about you, or a 10 people knowing everything about you?

I guess that depends on why you want to be "recognized". IMO its a gaming community, so respect should be targeted towards game related skills, and I agree it doesnt have to be aim, it can be other things, like leading a clan, moderating a forum, running clan ranking, making good configs, running leagues, stuff like that.
I guess I am a bit confused on why so many people in this community equals contribution or respect to postcount. There are people with over 2000 posts that have less than 100 constructive posts, I don't get it. I am not saying it's wrong, I just don't get it.
Can't say I understand the need to be recognized or famous either.. But again, I don't think its wrong.
About people with great skills and beeing an utter idiot, I don't respect that either. I respect skills, but I generally don't respect idiots, regardless of skills
Can't do anything but agree. Heh, i certainly hope more than 100 of my posts are constructive
Btw, there are ho's and HO's. Some people are seeking plain attention (Alex, anyone?) just for the heck of it, some like being social and always seem to have something to say (Mad, anyone?), which sometimes can get annoying, i know.
About why people want to be recognized - dunno about the rest (we each have our own reasons), but me myself likes to gain new acquantices and seek out friendly people. I highly doubt i would meet all the people i consider my E+ friends if i weren't so active on the forums.
:salute:
Well said :thumbleft:
