Here is a test alpha map. at the moment its only a basic 1v1 map however it could be made into other things. What do you people think about it?

My ideas/
-If you stray to far from the light you die (with a nice scream)
-balins tomb at one end and the big bridge at the other (where shall not pass thing happens) could be two bases for a nice ctf and the middle is a path of light.
-i dont really no if i can use lotr's music in the map i have come across hl2 maps with it in and they seem to be around for along time.

Because fog culling is the only real way of making this work i'm sorry but the distance you can see is limited, however ive made it look more like darkness than actual fog which give a nice dynamics to the lightmap.

(oh and epsi i did manege to get my sky shader to eventually work)

To load the map type \map lotrtest or you could load it with \devmap lotrtest with this command you can then enter dev commands like \r_showtris which you may find interesting.

ok set your com_hunkmegs like this according to you ram
Memory..............256 512 1024

\com_hunkmegs 128 256 256

\com_soundmegs 32 64 128

\com_zonemegs 32 64 128

Most computer these day allow to to set the maximum values displayed here. setting these values right will also make your quake run better and run map which require more memory (like that school map and the Simpson map).
Make sure its set in the config file you have and not done in console otherwise it wont work properly.

hmm how much ram do you have? also make sure that it is set in the config/autoexec not in the console.
Maybe you have other programs eating up your ram apart from that i would not no the problem.
The hunkmegs value should be set to roughly 2 thirds of you ram maximum 3/4 but nothing more. usually higher values are unnecessary.

I suggest downloading this map (school) http://mxl.cz/q3maps and see if you have the same problems. This one works however some people don't have their settings correct for larger maps and it has being known to be difficult in the same way as this test map.

On the off chance it could be your ram. I then also suggest a mem-test which can be done thru the bios at start up.

I have 4GB Ram. I change the megs values in my config not on console. The only program running behind is antivirus (Nod32), Mouse program and Graphic card program. I thing those programs are not using so much ram from my system. I download the map you said but when i load it it says this message:
HUNK_ALLOCATETEMPMEMORY FAILED ON 44054292
And with your new map it says:
Hunk_ALLOC FAILED ON 640

I have a program to make memory tests, clean drives etc... Everything seems good now maybe i forgot to put some command. Any help?

Sad oh dear well maybe you too many pk3 files in your baseq3. try to run the maps on a clean (temp) install and see if that works (with the right settings). Apart from that i would not know.

edit: One thing that could be eating your ram is i once had a problem with norton antivirus where it was scanning each file your disk defragmentor was moving and since by defult the defrag program is always on (it defrags after a certain period of time) it slows down your pc. Most of the time its completely undetectable unless you actually check what Norton is doing (Norton has a app built in). It can only be completly turned off (only Manuel use) if you change one part of the registry (the fix is shown on Google). anyways im wittering on i could keep going all day Tongue you wait until i get more confident on ts Tongue

Its only a test atm if you want to see this kind of map it best to see it loaded up in q3 so you can see how it can be developed better. Atm its simply an idea not really a map. Just seeing if it was possible to make a open environment lotr area before creating the map. In other words i didn't want people views base from what they saw in a screen shot because they were no use to me.
