CTF died?
TwT and ALONES can play CTF fun-wars in any form
Borg only had on his top around 70 active members , ED 10 PGV 10 EN 10 zoo i believe also 10 KTR 10 RATW 30 or more KS was pretty big too
I count more then 200 active ctf players in that time , i believe thats pretty much alive
What constitutes as an "active player" for you? Activity in clan wars on weekly basis or having your name in the clan database?
(let us look at summer 2008 during latter stages of bananas cup as an example of a spurt of activity)
Borg had 2 public servers in 08 and most respectable clans also had a server (ed and ktr) for e5 which were open to the public when not open for wars.
Also 1) ed had about 6-8 at the time, fest was turbo inactive and Memphis still at ktr (they more than made up for that with their 150+ people on their steam group for l4d2)
2) ktr makes up for the deficit cos for every training we filled our 16 slot server. I still remember klez.I and brat showing attacking moves and Memph and tibo not understanding a thing cos Spaniard+Hungarian and most of ktr spoke only Russian.
3) Borg was 1) a team 2) an e5r team 3) only participated in the last ctf cup when it was too late 4) Tarasbulba added EVERYBODY he could think of to clandb, and a large portion of Borg never even played e5, or played on a rare basis (invites to friends, moderators and admins, random people he met on beer freeze). Pretty sure there wouldn't be more than about 10-20 hardcore Borg ctf'ers back then, ironically playing for their clans (ed, evil, ratw and more)
4) zoo was a plus funteam (much less players than Borg, but ironically, a closer nit community and with much bigger team spirit) same as Borg - the majority of e5-interested. ( for example Memphis equi abarth).
5) you could also add xXx to the list - it was another funteam not directly related to e5 (without rail) ctf community so should be totally on ze list $$$ - we played ctf, we played e5, and considering our line up of "nood musoraninn Memphis seebz killer shadyak" we had 7 players + killer would be about 5 more if we trust clandb
6) en best clan evar in e5, but p. sure that by that time 10 players is a bit far fetched (even if you count killer ). Trax odin kb sil xt, that Belgian dude. Sorry, I could only recall 6, I could have missed someone though.
7) evil and ratw had a lot of people on their clandatabase, a lot of which included long-inactive players. Ratw were finding it hard to find players to the point Honk/Emir had to recruit plus players before every cup.
8 ) pgv, >< and fuc estimates were kind of correct though.
Upside-down 6) about time of counting - this was the physical manifestation of excessiveplus activity on e5 (please note I am not counting any excessive cups or community sizes since I just wasn't there and haven't seen or paid attention to any credible info apart from a curious visit to the excessive website in 2006, views of war results on en and fuc war results in 2007-08 (both websites are probably dead now) and from conversations with Seth, Killer and Smoker about the subject. So I can't really make a judgement but can at least say that en are noobs cos they lost like 2-3 wars in 2004
11) if we look at a time before bananas cup one (and we can't go directly to the source since, in a premediated application of "lack of logic" and "stupidity" that is so popular here among admin, mod and plebiscite alike, forgot to save events, which means you guys might have to take my word for it), every single e5 and e5r cup before bananas since the events sub-domain creation in 2006, had exactly 6 participating clans. Different gametypes(ctf or tdm), different configs (e5 or e5r), different clans, but exactly 6 of them.
Deuze) and after bananas cup 1 activity diminished a lot since musor turned to MOBA, nood to ql, Memph to cpma, majority of ed first to urban terror than to left 4 dead 2 most of ktr, fuc and >< stopped playing, and certain active klans were maid through mergers or salvaging players from inactive clans (or by resurrecting old names)... lets just say you won't see pol and en in the same cup here, or jds and mcn, or ktr and ks (or at least the ktr of 2008)
13) so yea, activity was good, and the clan scene in that time was a great one to take part in (the fact it was really small happens to be its strongest attribute since there were grudges, alliances, in-jokea, clan and player rivalries and even certain "east vs west" undertones made it really interesting to take part in. But for reasons stated in my previous post, considering it a major mod for ctf is just ridiculous: clan scene was always tiny and it's always been what it is: a niche mod with fast paced and borderline addictive knockback movement, a penchant for defensive spamming and basic elements of teamwork.
It's hard as anything to give credit to one mod over another because certain values just mean different things when you take matters such as community size, spectator value. The en-ktr final match had 40 gtv spectators which seems a lot? Well, that number us dwarfed by every single gtv statistic for a cpm or osp cup final up until organized streaming cut gtv's throat, the clan scene of any competitive q3 mod, public server scene can still be equated by the siberian osp servers (and I went out of my way to mention as little as possible to mention quake3 mod urban terror, independent (and shit ) game team fortress 2 and independent (and quite good :f) game ut2004, since their current public ctf server statistics will give any excessiveplus player a massive culture shock), or the non-existant pickup game community (pickups are a good in-between point merging the measurement between public and clan scenes, since it is normally a less teamwork orientated closed game where people want to play within a skill-gap and avoid random retards, winjoiners, rage quitters and all that fun stuff that comes with public games). Well, flag junkies in quake live can get a game in #playquake for European ctf, #qlpickup.ru for Russian ctf, or go to a pickup channel for one of the new flag-based gametypes, 1 for 1flag ctf, 1 for attack and defend, 1 for harvester, and if that isn't enough, there is even a fucking instagib channel which plays ictf. That's 6 channels, 5 of which play plenty of pickups daily, and instagib pickup almost as much. See, that is a good example of a proactive game infrastructure where aspiring players can play with eurocup grade pro's and veterans can brush up on their form in a closed game environment, and is a good indicator of advanced clan acrivity. E5 pickups since 2006? 5, 3 of them either e5r tdm or tag
I guess as a conclusion, its good to feel nostalgic about previous cups and past victories, and fun u had with friends, but it doesnt mean you broke the Guineas world record for "most fun per kilogram" and that feelings of nostalgia could affect your memory about the fun in question.
Epilogue - Fort William Football Club will never play in the SPL. First of all they do not meet Scottish premier league requiremenrs for a stadium capacity (theirs is about 150), second of all, the Highland league is not regulated by the Scottish FA so no club ever gets promoted to division 3. And the third and final reason is that Fort William F.C. are completely and utterly shit: they lose almost every away game rarely get points at home, and finish every season with a goal difference of like -100. That, however, doesn't stop the players from attending, and the fans from turning up every week to see their friends, family or loved ones and to cheer for then. Make what you will out of that.
if ctf comes back to life, come find me :]
Shady, they were more than just active players here, I've seen them more than one or 100 times during clan wars/fun wars/public games and probably I skipped much more because I am not so old school player.

boring day ;p and as all know I am ctf player so I wanted to show how many ppl played ctf here I know he is our chronicler but most @ + side ;]
plusnubs pluswankers
At least those nubs and wankers still have an active scene. Maybe this distinctly elitist attitude had something to do with pants/e5 not surviving to the present day, eh?
Anyway, it's kind of too bad. While plus-based CTF always seemed like the ultimate exposition of everything that's retarded about Excessive gameplay, it was fun watching top shelf pants/e5 players combine ground movement and weapon jumps to get around maps. It always seemed more hardcore and visceral to me, even if there usually was more chaos, dumbfuckery and, as said above, much more elitist attitudes emanating from the scene.
