Guys, a fragmovie cant be longer than 5-10 min. Two reason is:

1. It's so boring after 10 min. if you just cut frags and nothing effect.
2. It's so long to edit a movie longer than 10 min. except you make it shit.

(Believe me I was video editor through 5 years.)

Another suggestions:
- Use FRAPS, save video without compression, or use DV codec.
- If you want slow motion do it in quake (timascale) not in video editor.
- Do not resize picture, set quake to 720x576 windowed mode.
- All editing done with DV material (takes lots of HDD space).
- Do not release it in shit wmv or xvid in low bitrate. Use Mpeg2!
- Make it non-interlaced + use some cool effect on whole movie.

qxy...err how about movies like annihilation or gq3? longer than ten mins yet 2 of the most popular movies out there...

guys this is getting out of hand...a movie cannot be made by taking into account the suggestions of the entire community..we'll never get it made that way..as i said leave stuff like this to the editor team...

@qxy...fraps is universally (in the movie making community) considered to be an extremely shitty way of capturing media...no good movie maker ever uses fraps to do it..most of them use simple straightforward avidemo or tgahook....also how to execute slow mo properly is an entire debate unto itself..dont make it so simplistic as - do it in quake not in a video editor....also almost all good movies ive seen are recorded in quake in 1024x768 or higher and then resized...and most of the hq versions are in x264 encoding.

imo we could go on debating about how to make a movie for eternity...if we're serious about this we get an editor team and let them do their shit...

1. Didnt see those movies. Maybe they have cool music, cutting and effects.
2. Saving still images is possible and has better result than fraps, but it's more hdd space and time expensive.
3. Resizing to smaller = lose information + additional work. Huh?
4. x264 also good, but hard to play on weak pc-s. (1,5 Ghz or less)

I don't put my hand on fire but i think they took something like a year of editing.

u guys want a movie that would be official e+ and u wanna do it in a month? and u want it to be good and have effects? get real folks...

and yes qxy it is all that..it takes a hellova lot of hdd space and movie making really taxes ur resources...but its worth it...most of the time...and u should really check out some movies...try own-age.com..and while ur at it mite wanna check the forums too....btw avidemo is not very time expensive at all...the tedios part of movie making is demo collection, sorting and editing..not capturing media...

and u should check out video lan media player..i think it should be able to play x264 stuff even on "weak" pcs

fraps n/c
U have to remmber is not dvd movie, but movie from game ihmo standart resolution 640x480 or 800x600.
dv is good for movie pure waste time for compres avi to dv and next to other codec.
Mpeg2 - total lol. Ur video from lan was huge 3 m and 150 mb, max for movie from game is 30 mb per min.
Ihmo for the best codec is xvid with bitrate about 3200 kbit

While everyone's arguing over this the people who'll seriously be trying to make the vid are already beginning the process of collecting demos, creating storyboards, clipping down the good shots and interesting moves... Cool

I wanted to ask what frag quality we are talking about here and i was going to post a couple of demos i made today. I loaded a demo and then i wanted to record the scenes but i got an error (didn't get a screen but it was readdemo something). Confused

btw, don't make it only rail shots, it can get dull Tongue

--edit--

Nevermind, i reread anem's post and i'll try that.

...and try not to put too many frags from cws. From what i've seen people try to win (obviously) and avoid risking a kill by shooting a cool rocket here and there. Plus, it's more fun if stuff are from public servers.
