It all depends, generally laser has been avoided since it tends to skip on lower sensitivity. The Infrared (optical) sensor in DA and latest MX518 doesn't skip at all for most people and that's why its preferred. But it all comes down to preferences, G5 had a more exact feeling than DA but skipped alot. If you are high sens I guess it wouldn't matter. I can't speak about the newer Ikari laser mice though.

I have g5, on sensitivity 0.675 and default setpoint settings, 2000 dpi, and I don't feel any skipping!(only thing I changed is from 1000 hz report rate to 333)

mouse dpi is nothing for me:) its about your hand comfortable and good pad.mine 900 dpi 3.8 sens

DA 1800dpi optical > 3500dpi laser.

i have g9, now using 1800 dpi
sensitivity 17 (2.5cm per 360o)
laser > optical . my opinion
