Pc crashes :/

when i play q3, after some time screen freezes, sound freezes and repeat the last thing and the mouse pointer is printed on the screen.
sometimes it happens but the pc doesnt crash, but dpi of the mouse go back to default 400 dpi and have to set them up again.
it just happens by playing q3 actually (think so, after 2 hours of serius sam second encounter it didnt crashed), i can browse the web for hours and do random crap, just in q3 it fucks up.
actualy os is win98, but that shouldnt be the problem, i didnt changed the parts of my pc for more than 9 month, and this problem is since a short time.
any1 can help me?

checked my only fans cpu and power supply, both are clean enough for perfect working (also cleaned them).
didnt exchanged power supply yet.
problem still isnt fixed

to me it sounds like overheat prob...then u say that ur only fan is ur cpu fan?

Same thing happend to me skull..i empty my screenshots and then it stoped ..Happy so I have to empty now and then to not freeze up after a map

my gfx has a passiv cooler and my pc case is open always

edit: btw when its overheat problem, why my pc doesnt crash on other games? ;d

skully try to install q3 into new folder, make it clear, without screenshots, otherz shitz.
Aslo try look in all slots, maybe there is dust.

if didnt help try test ur pc by :

i had similiar probs after a pb-update. Finally i had to update my gfx-drivers, and it was ok again.

(if u play each day q3 on pb-servers u even dont recognize a update)

atfer cleaning q3 folder and uninstall mouse and using ballmouse, my quake3 can run for hours now.
thx for the advice, i will point out later what it exactly was.
