Because it's excellent at detecting cheaters and thus makes the lives of both the players and admins easier. But I'm no expert either...

u host gameservers ? i dont think so cause i u went too u dont talk such lazy bullshit, i host gameservers i know what iam talking about and punkbuster (if u have the cfg right one time) is a very useful and good tool too detect OGC cheaters wallhackers and such kind of noobs, it lags for sure but u prefer too have cheaters on your server ?
u dont need too run pb whole time man why ? if u think someone is cheating u turn the pb on and wait few minutes and if there is nothing u turn it off and restart server (at which this is really little bit stupid)
and i think that matter "Too hard to explain to noobs" is cause i think u are the noob and dont understand how to set it up and u wanna call others noobs and its hard too explain, ye for sure man when u dont understand it urself u cant explain anyone, may that be ?
and the update is how sayed only one cmd and just waiting (pb_sv_update)

Keep 'em coming, guys. If I remember correctly, riot was very pro-pb and you are providing him with more and more pro-PB arguments. He just now pretty much dropped the arguments of our admins in front of your feet and (some of) you are flaming him for those. Do you talk to the admins like that, too?
Anyways, it's all good, I'm in support of complete PB protection on all servers. One of the first times I joined an e+ server I was constantly kicked to spectate mode because my version of PB wasn't updated. I went and used pbweb and look where I am now: still here. Frankly I am starting to wonder if we really are that desperate to attract people too dumb to use PB, or if we shouldn't be targetting those players that take the game serious enough to only play on PB servers. Might bring some more quality to the game, a higher challenge. (I remember a comment mentioning that people don't take e+ very seriously due to our current policy, and I can't help but agree.) And with PB on, there would be a lot less flaming of good new players and perhaps the forum could become a little more peaceful, it's been rather aggressive over the past months and I think that's very unfortunate, it's a great community.
Update: About the lag thing... I've played other quake mods and games where I've had no lag due to PB. Perhaps something in the e+ code itself is incompatible with PB? Maybe there are ways to fix that... not sure, I don't know much about the technicalities, it's just a hunch that might be worth looking into.

I ain't flaimg anyone... I believe Riots last post was dripping with sarcasm (the GB flag was a giveaway ). I am pro-PB and I am one of these 'admins' you speak of... I run the only 5 E+ servers in the US with PB always on. I rarely get people complaining about lag, and as a matter of fact, I've had other server admins ask me for my PB config because it runs smooth. I can't remember the last time we had an actual cheater on our server for more than a few seconds.
If you want to see a mod that is pro-pb, go look at FreezeDT... all of their servers are pure and have PB always on, and they are almost always at the top of the list in terms of number of players.
I think that in order to effectively weed out the super noobs from the ones who would actually bother to update pb, etc, is to not let people who don't have the mod join the game. Most of the people I see who don't bother to update PB and leave after they get kicked to spec dont have the full mod either.
