Hi,

I'm planning to buy a new screen. I'm considering 22 inch or 24 inch widescreen. Does the Quake III work on widescreen? Or is there some problems?

Thanks.

I asked this also from one of my friend who plays computer games and knows about these things some more than I do. He emailed me these links:

Instructions how to set up widescreen (Doesn't seem to be very difficult).

Picture(what's the difference between normal screen and widescreen in Quake)

It seems to be that Quake works well with widescreen. According to the picture behind that link seems to be you can see more with widescreen. I think this can be advantage. Happy

seta r_customheight "x" - height in pixel
seta r_customwidth "x" - witdth in pixel
seta r_mode "-1"

and /vid_restart

eg.

seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1200"
seta r_customaspect "1"

Anyone that is useing this - have you noticed a decrease in FPS? I have a 1920x1200 screen and since setting it, I don't get above 90 fps. Sad Most times it stays around 70-75. Same thing is happening on my comp at home, but not as bad. Those settings are 1280x800.

what do you have vsync turned on? if so and you play at high refresh rates maybe its because when you turn it up to that res it has to turn the refresh rate down to 90 and so the vsync drops to 90 also

I just got my widescreen tonight. I get some annoying FPS dips myself at 1440x900. My FPS bounces between around 75 or 80 to 125. I guess my poor little 256MB FX5500 has to work hard to run opengl at that res Laughing
