Online relationships? You guys want a heartwarming story to make you vomit, just read on.
In 1998 I was frequenting a Nine Inch Nails IRC channel where there was a tight group of about 20 people who talked on there for hours after work/school basically 5-7 days a week. My closest online buddy was a lady from England named Beth, and this one night she put up a voice chat for all the #nin regulars to go to and join, even if they had no mics, we could all hear what the rest of us with mics sounded like and talk shit, whatever.
So I get in there and she brings in her friend Cheryl -- prodded her into joining this chatroom, luring her in saying "That Matthew guy from Maryland has SUCH a sexy voice, I wanna melt, you have to come talk to him!"
Yeah. So me and Cheryl sort of talked back and forth on there that night. And started going to the NIN chat together a lot. And IMs. And emails. Then phone calls and naughty webcam sessions late at night.
Fast forward to 2006 and I've driven/flown thousands of miles to her old place in Chicago several times over, she's lived here with me since 2001, we got married in 2002... shit, this is way off topic but at least it'll keep the thread going.
Sometimes "online relationships" actually lead somewhere. Haha. The birth of IMC, guys... 7 or 8 years ago. Crazy.
