Video problem
Today iw as at idk's place and we wanted to look some videos, but idk got a problem:
if he wanna play a video with any player, the video player crashes by opening video, also the cpu useage is 100% and the pc is running as slow as if u would run winxp on a 100mhz pc.
after reinstalling service pack 2 winxp and gfx drivers, we got rid of the problem with uninstalling gfx drivers, videos run , but without gfx drivers u cant play games etc.
any idea?
(idk got a 6600 nvidia td from winfast, we also tried different driver (2 drivers, the from the original cd and an actuall forceware driver))
some settings in either graphics drivers or in actual codecs (players even) do that.
Deinstall all video players and codecs, and install from scratch.
Use K-Lite codec pack installer to intall your codecs, because it detects parts of codecs that are not deintalled (main problem causer).
what players does he use?
did he try VLC?
agp settings? performance <-> quality? hardware acceleration? i would start with tinkering those, guv.
I would still go and toy with those settings for a while. In my experience, most of the gfx errors come from them.
What more.. tried some older drivers? I'm guessing you're just grabbing the newest ones from the net, so old drivers might just be the solution to the prob. Also, does he have any peripherals connected to the comp (plug & play shit) that might conflict with vid feeds? Dunno, tv tuner, webcam, stuff like that. Might be worth to disconnect it.
Not discovering america here, and this all is shooting in the dark. :E But sometimes, it's the obvious stuff we miss that's causing bad mojo
man u think we're stupid?
do a barrel roll!
btw, just to clear this, how is his Graphics card cooling?
and most importantly: any dual monitor setup? its the thing that is usually not activated until you install regular drivers. and tends to do crap to video until you set it up properly in the overlay, etc.
we reinstalled xp and used the k-lite codex ;d
