Heya:-)

I have small problem. After long time iam upgrading my hdd. From Seagate baracuda IV 40GB ATA133 to Western Digital 250GB SATAII interface. Problem is that if youre want to install win xp to sata disc, you need to upload sata drivers from floppy disc. But my PC dont have a floppy disc drive, only DVD-ROM and DVD rewriter. Is possible to upload needed drivers from CD-RW instead floppy?

I will try to make a complete copy of all files from old disc to new but iam installing new windows every 2 months so its question to near future.

thanx for help and any suggestions

Simply make bootable CD with option to get command line (you can edit wxp install disc with ms deploy tools) and make a directory and just copy there all files from your diskette. It will work.
Why reinstall system every 2 months?

You need to install from a Win XP sp2 cd and that will solve your problem.

I had an old computer with XP Pro on it, using it for some crap like surfing, IRC'ing and had a Warsow server for a while.

I was actually at an uptime with no problems for over 18 weeks straight (last time I checked) and could probably have gone on (assuming no power shortages) if the computer wasn't accidentally physically destroyed at that point, heh. So, I'm not sure if XP is inherently all evil, some times users may help it a bit on the road to destruction x)

done but it was hard to time. Problem was to run new disk like secondary. Disk was in system devices but u couldnt to find access to it. after that i disconnected old hdd, connected only sata and tryed to install new winXP. i wanted to press F6 in right moment. i pressed f6 with rate like AK-47 but nothing happened(?) After some time installer wrote something about unknown device and if i want, i can upload custom drivers or continue. Firsttime i tryed to upload something but installer only wrote that cant find floppy disc drive in my pc and after that was possible only F3 for exit setup... In second round i tryed to continue without uploading sata drivers and it was run! wow. And now iam slowly installing next and next software and copying via usb2.0 data from old hdd which is actually in my mediabank (hdd enclosure and multimedia player (divX,mp3,jpg,...)

Use nlite software from http://www.nliteos.com/ to build WinXP CD that has your SATA controllers drivers integrated. Will be no problems and you will have your own WinXP CD. I do it myself, since I dont have FDD too.

But instead of this ALL you can use much more advanced O/S like gentoo... and have no problems with hardware... and superb performance... and enjoy eye candy desktop.. bah windows slaves.

i installed it successfully from pure winXP professional (pure = without service packs) but only one ass is in free space which you can use ( <150GB). If you have a bigger hdd, you must use newer version of XP or after instalation install partition magic and resize partition Big grin
