Re: Antivirus, which one?

avira is the best if you want only antivirus but if you want internet security which is called firewall, nod32 is the best nowadays imo. It even prevents ARP poisoning, it means if someone tries to steal your password through the local internet it reports his local ip address and kills the connection between you and him. Its what I most like with nod32. in addition to these you can use Zemana anti keylogger which prevents you from the trojans, keyloggers, botnets that antiviruses can't catch. it has a system totally different from antiviruses. It catch viruses when they are trying to open keylogger, webcam, filetransfer etc...
so nod32 + zamana would be unbreakable. If you were good at viruses only zemana antilogger would help you alone Happy

Re: Antivirus, which one?

Thanks for suggestions! I still got ~2 weeks before I format my system and install any AV.

Xotic, about webcams...
In the Silvester night 2 years ago something strange happened. I was surfing thru the websites to find one thing to show for my friends and after I entered one quite strange website my notebook started "lagging" and my diod near camera turned green and that means the notebook's camera has been activated. Probably some strange website virus turned on my camera and probably it was recording me.
Since that day my notebook's camera is 24/7 taped by paper and tape.

this is what I mean khaz. That kind of virus is called trojan and its installed by a browser like firefox, ie, chrome etc.. through "fully undetected(FUD) Java Downloader exploits". you can google it and see how it works. These kind of viruses may be undetected by antiviruses but antikeylogger can easily catch it!

So you'd rather work on a castrated OS than install one piece of helpful software? You're a funny guy, Skull.

castrated OS is a must go because its twice as fast as normal win xp.

That's your choice. I would never pick functionality over speed, especially since if your PC isn't an antique and you're doing some maintenance on the OS periodically, it will run reasonably fast.

Very true. I would rather drive a car that is a little bit slower than one that is ultra fast but that has no seatbelts or working breaks. And besides that "twice as fast" is a myth anyway. Properly configured AV software has just a small influence on performance.

using antivir doesn't fix the source of the problem, neither it is more secure since antivir programs always are a bit behind (hours/days) behind the newest infections.

Basically you need to deinstall java/flash, browse websites in Plaintext and disable autorun/installer services. As long as all of these components of a pc are infectable, nothing can protect ur pc.

Agreed, nothing is 100% secure. But if I can increase the security of my system by using a AV software by some percent then this is reason enough to do it. The chance to hit an infected website before your AV gets the signature update is less that the chance to get an infection without using any AV software! And plain text is not necessary at all. Simply use NoScript, AdBlock (with the malware domains subscription) and Ghostery and most scripts and active elements are filtered out anyway.
