Commodore?
Hi,
Silence[EN] gave already some advice but I ask still here about this. I saw an ad in some magazine about Commodore computers: http://www.commodoregaming.com/pcshop/home.aspx
I'm thinking of getting new computer because my computer is for some reason too slow for graphics software. For Quake its very good but when I use Photoshop and Illustrator together it's just keeps me waiting all the time. Half of the time goes for waiting for something to happen. And I have to use those software all the time right now.
I have to say I don't know much about computers. So does anyone know could those Commodore computers be good for using big graphics software? Right now I have amd athlon 3000+ and its not good enough.
Thanks for help.

this commodores are only normal PCs. Nothing special inside. You can simply upgrade your hardware.
how much RAM u got?
such software need much (2-4 Gb)
CPU
Intel® Core 2 Duo E6750 € 170
Intel® Core 2 Quad Q6600 € 265,53 (could be better chose when u do graphic stuff)
Mainboard Socket 775
Asus P5N-E SLI € 106,61
GigaByte P35-DS4 € 157,88 (best board u can get)
Graphic Cards
Asus EN8600GT SILENT/HTDP/512M € 152,75
Power supplies
Be Quiet Dark Power 530watt € 109,90
Memory
A-DATA DIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 Kit € 86,11
Most Price are from Finnish Alternate Site
Sdram DDR?
Sdrams are slow
* 66 MHz = 533 MB/s, 15-12 ns
* 100 MHz = 800 MB/s, 10-8 ns
* 133 MHz = 1067 MB/s, 7,5 ns
* 142 MHz = 1133 MB/s, 7 ns
for example ddr's
* PC-200 (PC-1600) – (64 bit * 2 * 100 MHz)/8 = 1,6 GB/s
* PC-266 (PC-2100) – (64 bit * 2 * 133 MHz)/8 = 2,1 GB/s
* PC-333 (PC-2700) – (64 bit * 2 * 166 MHz)/8 = 2,7 GB/s
* PC-400 (PC-3200) – (64 bit * 2 * 200 MHz)/8 = 3,2 GB/s
so maybe u just must get a better RAM
(sry for errors and bad english)
btw: i have this one ;]

@unreal

a3 format is: 9933x7016 px its 200 mb - convesion of 3 a3 posters load not only ram and hdd (swap file) and also cpu, when u want do smth like put filters on this res cpu will work hard too.
btw. sill u forgot about hdd. imo seagate barracuda should be good - u need only choose how much gb u need.

Hmm.. I have 1024 sdram(?). Is it same as ram? Could it be the problem?
I just opened two A3 sized cmyk colored posters which had 300px/inch resolution. I had to change these images from photoshop format to pdf-format. This task took 12 minutes. Just to open them and save them again to pdf. It's how slow my computer is right now.
A3 is 5000 x 3500 pixels ? 16million colours ?
thats about 60 mb uncompressed and my comp has no problem with this and i got emule running in the background. it was done under 2 minutes.
but i saw it was using the pagefile alot.
i used psp9 to create a 5000 x 3500 pixels image, pasted some pictures in it and converted it to pdf with pdf printer and set paper to a3 and picture downscaling to 300pixels per inch.
my comp is an amd 3800+ single core 939 with 1gig of ddr400 memory.
