Decade of Games, I'm back to my roots!
Just registered today and wanted to drop in and introduce myself to all the folks here at excessiveplus.net. Its been nearly a decade since I was hardcore into Mr. Pants Excessive MOD CTF & TDM (remember 'The Proving Grounds' ladders anyone?).
Anyhow, with the recent evolution of gaming these past years nothing seems to have kept my interest like this game ever did. The sheer competitiveness and sense of community is unparalleled IMO (hostile and humble as it can be, hah).
Seeing where the newer FPS market seems to be headed it's left a really bad taste in my mouth. So I figure what better time to get back at my roots here in the excessive community and help contribute to keeping the dream alive :!:
The only real challenge it seems is going to be finding a solid community or group of folks to practice with on US server(. Random pubs are alright, but I prefer working with organized people that practice strats and refine their game play. I've already looked at Spider's selection of servers and it seems the US crowd is seriously under-representing here (dead servers).
Can anyone recommend any personal favorites in the US (E+ CTF & TDM) that actually stay fairly busy? I live in the Midwest, but any server location in the states should suffice (Dallas and Chicago are ala-ping for me). I honestly haven't even been able to find any old community still playing the unmodified Pants version of excessive. Seems everyone has transitioned to E+ since his development stopped (understandably).
Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I got my autoexec built today during my idle time at work. Now I just need to find a decent server to sand the rust off these skills, heh.
Anyone open to allowing me to work with them would be fantastic. I need to get a feel for where this community is at before settling down with any clans (IMO).
Hey mate. good to see some old faces around, Ofc im guessing the cfg your looking at is e5? (plus cfg is not what the excessive cfg was) Well unfortunatly there is rarly any us e5 servers going, Your best bet is to take a trip down memory lane to the 1.30 server which are still standing. Quite a few americans still play there (more than on e+) . The main active server is the borgteam server (ctf)
Oh ye also if you want to play the pants cfg without any modifications you wont find it here in e+ . Unless you callvote the cfg on the server, I think looking at the 1.30 servers is a start, somw of your old mates still play there
oh also
that will help you find the 130 servers
Yep mate, There is serveral cfgs, I guess for somone who was only ever use to one cfg it might be a bit to take in. Ill try to help you out.
E5 -EXCESSIVE5 - switch times are fast, NO rail <---- 1.03 e5 Is very similar to the excessive cfg. Only minor changes are bfg splash is not as powerfull. Mg takes i think 9 bullets to frag with.
E5-EXCESSIVE5 1.04 - Slow switch times (I think in a bid to be more like the excessive 1.30 ) Bfg damage improved not sure what much else (this is very similar to excessive 1.30 ) The good news is that it is the official cfg of the latest ctf cup.
E5R- EXCESSIVE5RAIL EDITION 1.03 - fast switch times, basically the same as e5 1.03 mate but with an insta rail. Sadly its the cfg which is used on the last known public 1.03 ctf servers but its not to bad.
E5R - EXCESSIVERAIL EDITION 1.04 - slow switch same as the 1.04 E5 but with an insta rail.
EXCESSIVE6 - Which is very similar to the 1.04 e5 but was created for 1.03 in a bid for the game to have more of an excessive pants style to it. But since the new slow switch e5 i tend not to see the cfg played much anymore.
So thats one half of the community and cfgs (probly got alot wrong )
Then you have PLUS
PLUS is a different cfg with a completly different clan database, PLus = alot more active than e5. Anyway
wont go into detail on the plus cfgs as i dont know much about them. Mainly i know its rail based.
Come and play on the borg ctf server. Its the same ctf action but even more fast paced (with less skill ) . But if you want to check out a war in the new 1.04 e5 pm me (ill let you spec an upcoming war for sure
)
Or ill send you demos anyway good to see you and np
Hey there breakneck, if you are really interested on bring up some nice games on Ctf or FFA, count on me.
IM hk spider leader of HK clan, or at least what is remaining of this clan. We have servers very customizable so we can turn up any server as we wish if we want to make some activity on the US side.
If you got msn pm me with it so we can keep it up, we need people with your will here more than ever.
I have contact with most of the remaing american players and im pretty sure that we can come out with something to atract some more.

I was hardcore into Mr. Pants Excessive MOD CTF & TDM (remember 'The Proving Grounds' ladders anyone?).
nick and clans?
in E+ even e5 is far from what you know from Pant's excessive... weaponswitcing became much faster and damage much lower. Anyways it is pretty much fun

WoW, thanks for the prompt response Shadow! I'm glad you mentioned the "E5" thing. As I've been reading through things I haven't clearly established what all these different levels of "Ex" mean in terms of game play modes. I'm gathering one is for rails, another for freeze, etc etc.
What exactly is the breakdown on that? Sorry if that question gets abused a lot. I can dig around and find out if needed.
Its a shame there isn't much of a community for E5 in the US (assuming thats the most similar to old school excessive). I never got into the rails play or freeze really. I dig the trick shots in CTF way too much. Map traversing was sooo fun! I think that's one of the unique things about this game that hooked me so much, the sheer speed of play combined with good teamwork.
I always preferred 1.31-1.32 game play. That's what was required in the matches on Proving Grounds at the time. 1.30 was full of hacks and n00b tubers galore from what I remember. If I have no choice though, I may have to dabble and see what things have become.
Thanks again for the feedback.
Breakneck,
