Do not treat the game seriously but sometimes you need to focus. The full commitment is the key to success. Watching demos also will help a lot. I still play and try to:D

The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest missunderstood concepts for people who are trying to meet their dreams. Talent acts naturally while skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of training.

If u mean q3...
Its doesn't matter which hardware u have. If your pc is has enough power to have 125 fps and no any lags - everything gonna be fine.
Mouse? Many very good players in q3 still using ball mouse, which has 100dpi. xd Mouse should be convenient and has better sensor.
Keyboard? - Convenient. If your hands feel fine with it, then any razer won't give you better movement xd
Reflect on the errors, to be able to think, have interest to the game.As cooller said "spirit on the game and mood is half of a victory."
Last thing - practise

Well i force model my enemies to tankjr. But not forcing your models and just using 2222 colors will help you with your aim.
