I'm not really up to date with everything that's happening here, so please feel free to tell me if something has been solved already.

I recently looked at the total-posts-sorted memberlist, and behold:
Kraster is third. So I decided to step in and end this madness (carried forward by a member or the community who is a real true nightmare).*

Ye, back to the real world now:

The new forum is still being developed (afaik), but we still could do some things to make this one better or give some ideas for the future one.

1. One of them is removing postcount altogether (not mine it was, hear hear). While this might seem as a bit harsh, looking at some of the stuff we get in the forums these days eg.

..this seems like quite a good idea. Or at least remove it in some of the forums (clanrank, clan forums?) Puh - leez.

2. Replacing postcount with a sort of "karma" system. What I have in mind is a system where you can award people for eg. helpful, funny or intelligent posts or "punish" them with marking their post as stupid (ofc if it really is). To implement something like that we would need lotsa more moderators (to check the commentaries and filter out those which were made out of eg. spite), but I'm sure that our community has more than enough competent people.

3. Custom titles instead of the postcount "hierarchy":
Ye, another nice idea (though still not mine, life is a bish ain't it?). I personally would like to see that implemented, would be quite fun as well (ofc set a limit of characters, not too much though ;]).

4. Forum signatures and avatars.
Either force them to be really small (could suck a bit) or add an option to not display them at all.

Not my stuff, I just put this all together.

If you think what I wrote is worth replying to, just write
ad 1., ad 2. etc.

Hello,

It is quite possible and I will be enforcing new measures, depending on what the majority thinks.

1. Removal of Post Count

2. Replacing postcount with a sort of "karma" system.
This is also possible, users are able to obtain "Good, Neutral or Negative Popularity" as per their posts.

3. Custom titles instead of the postcount "hierarchy"

4. Forum signatures and avatar restrictions

2) The karma system is a good idea, but a really difficult concept, which can be abused... We all know when HQ, CASA, mow or term (to name a few) post, its serious, we also know the forum whores (:salute:) and the hate-fuelled forum trolls so ithe karma thing isnt needed that much

3) True, would stop the "gg's" and "+1"'s for the sake of gaining a rank (but then again if there's no postocunt, theres no rank, so goes with 1)...

4) Not too sure about this, there are already enforced restriciton on avatars, and no1 is really abusing the signatures, for the aske of arax, i'll say "disabling them (an option of "not see the avatar/signatures in profile settings)is a nice idea in terms of saving bandwidth for the client.

Ahem. Let me add a few words of my own opinion.

First of all, let me say i wouldn't mind either option, except maybe the "karma system" one. Why? Because i think it's impractical in such an environment we have here on the boards.. too little mods/admins, too many people to abuse it... sooner or later it would get out of hand.

As to the other options, a few notes.

1). If that's what it takes. However, in my opinion, a better way would be to either engage the administrating/moderating staff into aggressive mode (meaning automatical removal of all stupid, single worded etc posts) and/or disabling post counting on few key subforums, such as clan ranking.

I already written about 2)

3). I would like that, it would be a fun feature. Either as complimenting, or replacing the post count.

4). I don't mind their size unless they are REALLY excessively big (anyone remembers Kokain's old avatar?). However, it DOES piss me off BIG time when someone puts a new, 1-2mb gif in his sig every other fucking week (hi, Bert). Some people don't have uber fast internet, some have download limits on their bandwidth, and they must make every single megabyte count. Not to add that it slows the boards. And it's annoying having to adblock every one of them. A reasonable overall sig content size of, say 150-200kb? And limited sig WIDTH, i don't care about height, but when i see ppl like Kamahl/Kenshiro put images in their sig that break the boards tables it pisses me off.

Anyway, aside from my whining, it all comes down in the end to aggressive moderation, and spam control. You won't eliminate stupid posts by removing everything BUT them. Even the heartiest spammer will doubt in his cause when he'll see half of his posts deleted. And if not, there are always bans, right?

i dont really care about 1-3.

but dont you touch 4 ffs! i find sig's and avatars ok in size (with a few exceptions). tho an individual option "dont display them" is fine by me, client has the choice.

Agreed with tar. Aren't there already size limitation on signatures and on avatars too?

And if I'm right, when you create your profile, it says your avatar must be at the most 100pix*100pix and 10kb at the most, no?
