HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP pls
Hi guys,
I have this problem with my pc and im almost going mad...
2 days ago i was minding my own bussiness when suddenly my pc restarted itself. It loaded up Windows and everything went fine till the end of my session. Yesterday, same thing happened out of nowhere as the day before, pc restarted itself but this time as soon as it loaded up windows it restarted itself again. Then after the 2nd restart it wouldn't load up anything, it just stayed like that with a black screen but everything was powered up (dvd, cd-rom, the fans etc). I had to manually shut it down using the on/off button. Then i let it cool for about 2 mins (i thought it might have been some overheating that had caused all that) and powered it up again. It worked with no problem untill the end of my session. And finally today the big hit. It did the same thing, restart and worked for about 2-3 hours when again it restarted itself but this time it went to that state i described above where i got a black screen, everything has power but nothing happens, it won't even go the first steps (detecting ram, processor, cd etc). And to this moment it still is like that. Oh now i cannot shut it down using the power button as i did yesterday, if i keep it pressed long enough, it just restarts the system and stops exactly as before (black screen - although i forgot to mention that monitor says "no input signal from input A" or smth like that - usually i know u get that if monitor was plugged in and turned on before the pc and the message dissapears as soon as the pc starts) so I have to switch it off using the power button located on the power supply. Also the restart button does not work when the pc is in that state.
I saw that everything receives power (the led fans, dvd, cd-rom, processor cooler, even hdd i could feel some small movement, usb ports too, i connected my ipod to one of them and i saw it turns on when i do that but it does not recharge itself, so there is power on the usb ports too imo). I tried unplugging all cables as i said, no success. Oh and psu didnt seem to be too hot, neither anything else. No burn smell aswell.
My system specs:
p4, 3.4 ghz (socket 775)
1gb ddram
HDD 200gb Maxtor
motherboard: asus p5gd1
psu: Aeropower II 450 W
OS: Windows xp home SP2
PC has 1 year and 4 months...
Im using microsoft antispyware beta and avg as protection but (shame on me) the last scan was done quite a while ago (but i rarely found spyware and i cant recall the last time i had a virus). Altho avg was always active. Also i never did a defrag on my HDD or reinstalled windows since i bought the pc.
Now im gonna go try and start it up again, maybe it works. And if it loads up Windows, what do u suggest i should do while im in?
----------------------------
I have searched all over the net for something similar but i couldnt find smth exactly as my problem. (actually i found just 1 exactly like mine but u had to pay and become a member in order to see the solution )
PLEASE HELP ME, im desperate as untill monday i have to finish my 3d project to be graded (
sry for the huge post, wanted to give u as much details as possible, thx in advance guys.
first test the hardware
so turn off ur hard disk ram and all other thngs what could restart ur pc
than start it if it reboots maybe ur bios is broken? dont know
cause ur pc reboots too if u start it
so its a hardware problem
my brother has a bit same problem :
His computer was up and sometimes when he sit on chair and move with mouse it restarted. We really dont know where is problem. At last think we know that...If my brother went on batch he took a static electric and when he touched mouse it was done....It is amazing this small power went over mouse, cable and after into PC....Now all works fine
Trance,I had excatly the same problems...remmember my post about a burned graphic card? One of the chips on it was slowly getting burned so finally when it was cooked it started to smell and my system lost power completely.
Before that the same symptoms as u...restarting out of the blue, mostly when it was under load (3d games or movies or anything else that uses graphic card),sometimes unable to power up (only black screen, and no POST,processor info, etc.) but all LEDs are powered up,just as u described. It can also be that the memory on your graphic card is dying...and that there isnt any obvious burning or smelling, cause u cant see it...u didnt state what graphic card do u have.If it has temperature sensing, check the temperature, also check your system and processor temperature and if GC doesnt have temper. sensing try getting a digital thermometer and put it under the gpu cooler to try and measure the temp directly.
Only thing I can suggest after this is,getting a graphic card/psu from your friend and try it.
Or,the simplest would be to take your graphic card to a friend and try it there.
Good luck
i had a computer here once with also some sort of hick ups.
it appeared that the ram (133mhz dimm) was the problem.
if you got 2 rams in you comp, extract 1 to find the defective one.

Hm...he had it runing good for almost a year and a half so Im guessing ram problems would be immediatly appearant...but anyway, like I said,if he has a friend that is willing to do him a favour and test his components (I still aim at graphic card, then PSU) he can solve the mystery with little pain.

Yup, had a similar problem once and it also was the memory's fault.
Hmm ill go try the ram thing.
GL,if its only ram u can consider yourself very lucky, and make sure there arent any cables/wires touching the graphic card or its chips...
PS
GC = graphic card
I also have an Asus P5GD1 MoBo.
I think it can be three things;
My first guess is your powersupply. Try anotherone. Borrow from a friend or something. If the powersupply is damaged it feeds the components with very uneven power. Reboot is a very common symptom. In an near future it probably wont boot at all. Doesnt matter if yours is new or old. Do you have an UPS?
R u overclocking? I ran my comp at 3,85 ghz (20% overclock) but if I try that now it sometimes hangs or reboot itself
If u do, go back to normal and without the turbomode enabled.
Perhaps your HD is worn out? My P5GD1 has a tendensy of 'stressing' IDE disks and eventually they brake down. Now I use SATA disks only. Knock on wood but they have been working without problems for some 3-4 months now.
GL
iz sugestion is very good
check PSU and thier voltages under sres and in idle
all looks like u goot burned/explored {(kondensator) if someone can translate do it ']} u can search on the motherbard "kondensatorka" with one look to fat" if u cant find that on mobo or vga in poers section (ram or cpu) its coold "zwora" im dont know in english such words ;>
Ratz seems i might have what u got, nut sure yet. I have a Geforce N5900XT Pcie 128 mb made by Asus. i had Asus Smartdoctor always running which was controlling the temperature and the rpm's of the video card cooler. And the cooler on it works aswell, she gets power.
Hmm ill go try the ram thing.
what is GC?
