E+ is extremely configurable, you can make it easier to frag by reducing detail, using brighter and louder models etc etc.... there has to be a limit to how far you take "tailoring" your configuration, exploiting a bug IS too far, I’m an ok player and I’m sure I could learn to do this after a little practice, but I’m not even going to try.

The annoying part is it seems you have to be skilful to be able to bypass the limitation and its these people that don’t need to do so (not that its acceptable for anyone to do so imo)
If you follow the line of logic that is ok to exploit the bug manually
ie: use dexterous skill to achieve an effect, then it is ok to use the script, as all a script does is achieve a certain effect. Like binding 2 weapons on 1 key, because that’s how you prefer your weapon binds.

The point being if you accept its ok to manually do it and that it’s not ok to use the script, then it’s not ok to use any script. And this is not the case. Although I’m slowly starting to think we should all have to use a standard cfg with nothing more than you can adjust in the quake game menu and then there would be no argument.(I know this is not possible)

If some one discovered that a certain combination of settings or key switches produced a wallhack effect would this be acceptable? ,of course it wouldn’t.

The other day someone talked about changing the sound files for silent ones, as someone who uses sound a lot in my game, footsteps etc (I don’t play music while I play,well not usually) This would to me seem like a massive advantage. I hate all the ambient noise and would love to get rid of it, but I won’t as it to do so destroys the integrity of the game as indeed bypassing reload time does.

Is it not bad enough that it seems links to our MOD are on cheat programme websites, and we have to deal with those lowlifes, lets not crap on where own doorstep for gods sake....

I also appreciate more and more people will hate me for posting stuff like this, and think I’m a patronising interfering git, but those who know me well will know I’m a happy fun natured person who just likes to play and have fun, but surly its not right to just stand by and watch something you love die in front of you and just say nothing.

Holy shit you said everything I wanted to or I thought of just was too busy , or maybe too lazy to post, or maybe didnt think anything woudl change Laughing
It seems that we are beating the dead horse, I think that idea of standard cfgs is a nice idea. Do I think it will happen? ... NO. A major thing that comes with any advantage weather its fair or skill is a satisfaction (sorry for spelling). And IMO because of this is why people are silent and the scripting continues. For one because these people dont wanna lose and they have been using these scripts why give it up and lose their rep, they have a syle now that includes these functions and also why lose the satisfaction of winning all the time. Psychologicly it can be a mild high, and tough to give up.
Anyways my point of this is there has always been a prob with cheating and now this, which is more difficult to point blame as the scripts are harder to prove, and are included in the MOD and game, which may make the fight against this shit pointless.
But thats ok we all know when we see a unnatural turn of events in the game, regarless of what is said or what excuse is made..... Anyways

Just final thought, but maybe some of us can work together and attempt to figure out something. although it seems to me a neverending thing.

i will ban in future all who stay on top-corners to watch trough walls (also a bug from q3, watching trough walls with default config and with no wallhack)

Ye I agree a standard cfg will never or can’t happen and I don’t really want it to. I do like to tweak my cfg it is part of the mod, it just seems that the way people are abusing the structure is indeed leading us down a dark ally.

Sure winning is nice, it’s possibly the main reason we all play. But that’s what I can’t get my head round. How the hypocrites sleep at night? Or is it more like “ yea another day I got away with out someone spotting my lameness” I also realise in the face of world poverty and war, this isn’t that important, but I suppose its all relative Happy

I wonder if the e+ team can add in the next release a function that if some one forces reload time their name is flashed on the screen and a siren goes of with an announcer saying.. lamer alert !! lamer alert !! Happy

I wonder how many would argue that it’s not lame and how many would stop doing it ? I think I know the answer and there in lies the reality of its dishonesty and weakness.

But you are aware that one can do it accidentaly - It often happends to me when using railgun + change to mg fast. It shoots couple of mg bullets and another rail beam.

And the idea bout using standart cfgs is really idiotic. First of all its not only halping by increasing visibility. Bunch of ppl use for example r_picmip for increaing fps as they machines are not really ultra fast. IE I got used to high picmip (and other detail low vars) since of the beginning of q3 while I had cpu 200 mx and it was crucial to make it work at 20 fps. It was always strong side of quake games - the configuration. But as you all said - It in the end - its impossible to change. And thats good.

I’m not really suggesting that the cfg goes unchanged I’m just try to give my feelings about how its gone too far, most players know the difference between fine tuning a cfg and using an unfair advantage...and sure pan it can happen by accident maybe I did it and didn’t notice. that’s a lot different to using it with intent don’t you agree ?

standard cfg's aint possible imo, but maybe the e+ team could fix this ability of bypassing the reload time (manually or scripted)?

It would be good if the bug could be fixed, but it’s more about the responsibility of players that I think is more at issue, they can chose not to abuse it.

....and just to clarify again I know it’s not possible to have a standard cfg Happy

than think about it that u dont cut urself.

if x+ team fix that, that u can't chance even taht fast between rail to rockets, cause the rockets got in change the reload time with first shot of the railgun Happy

example:
cycle of rg = usual 1,1 sec in brostyle, so u need from rail to rockets with first shot 1,1 sec.

Also than, on x+side the instand shot and instand switch should be disabled, what would mean loosing a part of the community.... :roll:

@wax - I was referring to the situation when player keep changing weapons really fast and it couses faster shot - it would be hard to tell if one is using bug or just played so long that fast changing and ocassional effect of the bug is in his blood. So I guess one should switch weapons slower to not get banged for intended 'cheating' and that is ... quite dumb idea. The only way to solve the problem is to fix it in the code. Otherwise suggesting that some ppl do it as intended action to bend game physics for winning purpouses is not gonna lead anywhere.
