The now days industry is relying on some very simple/TOO SIMPLE aspects: productivity, costs, performance and quality (quality is last!!!)
where is reliability ? i don't know but i think we will so very much change everything we bought in the last 2 years in less then 4 years! Why ? Why not? more money to invest ? which business doesn't like this?
This is only my few cents about the market of these days.

Place here the hopes, that i'm not right about it.

Depends how much youre going to use it every day. Plasma has the best picture quality (colors, no backlit, 100% viewing angles) but it has bigger power consumption (depends on lightness of scene) and plasma display has limited life number of hours. So if youre going to use your TV for few hours daily or less, plasma is your choice.

If youre used to use your TV like background in living room (for example 8 hours daily and more) its better to buy LCD TV with LED backlit (less power consumption and higher contrast than CCFL backlit)

You ever had a plasma? If you want fast response times, the brightest colours (and a real black background) and an unbeatable sharpness then plasma is the first choice.
