Good to know that somebody tried to load 1.03 despite the little success, I would like to know who was Happy.

I see less people than one time and a different atmosphere, and I am conscious of the possible reasons, especially those related to real life and a greater choice of alternative games. I don't need explanation about that Happy.

Listening the voice of many players here and in game, not only now, but also during the years I have been active, I'm maturing a thought:

What if the developing would take a different path?
Currently, we have one path formed by evolution up to version 2.4.
I am in favor to developers and their free work and thank you for it.
We have 2.4, new features, new choises, in two words a good refresh.

The second path would be based on 1.03 version, plus the fix of those errors mentioned by Mircwar that could be added just for the first period of playing. Then if it would be possible little by little, add the new features of 2.4 without affecting the beloved and recognized basic functionality of version 1.03.

I think that if the new features reached in the 2.4 are great, but the game is less playable(also in less recent versions), what is the point of the improvement? Most people here knows that the game was clearly playable in 1.03. Playable means that you can decently run, fly, move, shot, hit and once again hit. Why don't to take a path related to the improvement of the basic objective: "frag in a first person shooter game". Because it seems not a "First person shooter", but a "First person with doubt on shooting" Tongue.

Now guys, I know that what I say could seems crazy, but as I am used in real life, in front of a problem I don't think about "OMG and now?? Oh my oh my :S"; my first thought is always "Ok, I have healt, let's find some solution and try", so I check things and solve it, to the face of those who said to let it go, because it was difficult Happy.
Negativity is not constructive, so keep it far. Only death does not have a solution.

Despite this, I realize that what Beazt says, it is also true, future is implementation to Quake Live, another good path.

So guys and developers in particular, I'm glad to exchange some words with you about my thoughts and not only mine, and understand if we could assess to take a position, since you have more knowledge than me about programming and quake surce code.

It is for all the players that I ask this, not for myself. I see that people who really like this game, would like to play with more fun, bringing back a good atmosphere, but at the moment it is not easy to sit and play because of those problems that probably need a fix and that causes a bit of stress instead of relax.

And I support Shwarovisky, when it says it is not Nostalgia, it is the atmosphere missing. Don't confuse atmosphere with nostalgia.

And please, don't take my words as a law, I am just suggesting some thoughts, some solutions to see more players return, and to see what is possible to do, just to stimulate the right minds.

Anyway I wanted to open various topics, because I have to talk with other staff Happy, but every next step is connected to the result of the previous, so.. Happy

Like epsi said, I cant remember which one it was that I started playing, either 1.03 or 1.04 but I definitely prefer with what I was playing back then. And MIRCWAR said it right, at the moment 2.x version feels like a mod gone through a meth addiction and going into a relapse smoking crack with a little bit of heroin.

Just for the record, if someone will find this post in a few years. Excessive Plus v2.3 has a 100% identical "netcode" compared to the v1.03 branch. The code has been compared line by line.

The .dll/.so versions had minimal differences by design, though. This does not apply to current versions.

PS: I still vote for v2.4!

Also I remember once there was this discussion on how 1.03 rocks comparing to newer version so even someone hosted some ftag server on 1.03 but even then it failed with noone playing on it and in that time there was still bigger activity on e+ Happy

I have to drop by to keep you guys in check time after time. All jokes aside, it really was a good time to play, there were no real "egos" around and it was populated almost 24/7, and when it wasn't you had the American servers to go to which worked thanks to unlagged.

I vote for 2.4!

I think you guys (including Beast) have taken too much flak for your releases. I haven't played a lot but I will say the latest one feels really good, my first impression was it felt more sluggish but after not playing for 4 months it feels just fine. So kudos to you guys.

voted 1.03
i do like the newer versions as well, but as mircwar pointed it out 1.03 simply felt the best gameplaywise.
im not exactly sure but i think its some changes in the movement(??) that make the game feel more clumsy in newer versions.

different people playing now. its not as if peoples personalitys changed overnight causing a different atmosphere but simply some ppl moved on and some new ppl started playing, and that creates a different atmosphere, different social dynamics. i believe even if 1.03 was still the latest release you'd see the same thing (actually while that was still around it happened already)

thats precisely what edawn was, but the name was not e+ so it didnt see a gd uptake. it was seen as competition ( maybe a gd thing if it pushes this mod to see reason to develop. it did and well you know the rest, here we are.)

imo its not worth it, i'd rather accept its over/changed and move on. its just a bloody game anyway lol. but each to their own, im sure there are ppl who refuse to let it go. thanks for the topic and gd luck, dont see my post as negative critcism, just stating my thoughts.

some difference came by mod design.
1.03 was qvm, 1.04 was .dll till quite some time ago.
