I meant that noone is interested except people that are on orbits around you. Look distributing the client update is the same problem as offering new maps to download. First you have somehow to get people to install your update and just then they can use all improvements like fast downloads. But I think if we have a way to distribute, then we can simply skip updating step and get people to download maps that way.
Your method can be implemented in addition with client-side update, however as long as there is no sources/patch of it - it gives advantages only for your servers atm. While client-side update gives advantages to all clients and do not have yours mentioned disadvantages (potential lags or so). Plus updated client is much more stable/secure, have faster/smoother renderer, have fixed mouse input(+raw+overflow prevention in my modification), plus many things that you obviously can't provide on server side.
Ohm I guess we are talking about different things... I personally do not like those advantages that need you to have some sixth sense to enjoy them. For me the only thing is worth to do is that makes players stick to your server for long time. And it is obviously not that you are talking about...
Topic directly points on client-side update if so Also there is no need in sixth sense to feel 500/1000Hz usb pollrate bugs or 3rd eye to see gfx issues or game crashes
