Hello there,
well, i had enough of being "Busy doing nothing" so i decided to create an application that makes maps, models and everything that is 3d relevant to quake3 , even farther more , im thinking of a code base that allows us (me and any one who would like to join with me) to make it wide to be used in any type of game modeling as far as its specifications are here, well that's enough for the long term plan.

as for the short plan i am now making the real plan, what structure should be saved and what tools we should use and what ever stuff needed to make it work Happy

well, i know for only me i would need 123412312434556456456234234 years to make such thing (i know i always waste too much time on nothing Tongue) , so i need volunteers to work along with me , any help will be appreciated Happy

if you like this idea we might make it work together, we can all learn something here Winking, no one come to this life or go out from this life with enough knowledge so learning is our propose Happy

updates are on the way Happy

p.s. i am the best quake player ever, that is the rule #1 Tongue
thanks.

Re: How a bout we make our own mapping application

Greetings;
wow , updates so soon Happy

well, i intentionally didn't add these to the original post cause it is just a proposal Happy

* first we will be using c++ , for speed and memory and even usability proposes.
* ok as for the editor , we will be using Microsoft visual studio 2008, for me i have the professional version, for the other versions(of vs2008 ofc) i believe it will do the work Happy
* for the 3d graphics we will use the latest stable version of OpenSceneGraph.
* and for the gui and the (core of the core) we will be using Qt.

for and remarks, questions, query or suggestion feel free to post Happy, and for any private question you may p.m. me and i will hopefully reply ASAP Happy

MaX
thanks.

Don't get me wrong. I'm the last to tell reinventing the wheel ain't no fun, as it's always fun to have it done on your own.

However, this is a real big project.
Have you thought about modifying or even contributing to GtkRadiant?

It seems to be a solid map editor with quite some games supported.

Greetings,

lol , i have used GtkRadiant and it needs a miracle to you to get started with it Happy, any one considered mapping on Google sketchup for example, well i can make the importer for sketchup files that reads the geometry and we can continue from there , i know that reinventing the wheel is not what i was thinking of .

well, unless i have some support i even wont start this project.

What this scene needs more then map editor is some E+ official mappack with custom maps.
So why don't u just make some e+ maps ?

the problem is that i don't feel like i have the artistic sense to create such models, all maps i created sux Happy, if i make one good map to be used for public use that would be absolutely luck Confused

Gtkradiant is an old program which the success of the edition has been proved. and this program was being updated regularly. 1.5 is the last update i think. but when you start mapping you know the work take a lot of time for a good map.

the comparison of time is enormous. you can learn all the basics of gtkradiant in just a few days. but building a good map can take minimum 3 months.

If some one want make a model, i used gmax or milkshape 3d for exemple and all of them are free.

this work seems meaningless.
